Please please can we have some advice!! From anyone!!
Me and the hubby bought a Ford Focus from ford direct (got a deal as a relative works there). 55 plate, 1.6 LX 35,000 miles on the clock.
With the car we got 3 months free warranty - which is due to run out in 15th august. Since we bought it, we've had the car back to the garage 3 times becuase of probems - power steering hose split, boot lid switch replaced, front brakes and discs replace, new tie rod needed. Now, the engine management light has gone from flashing to being on constant - banging noises, lack of power, juddering.....
We've had enough, problem after problem. Any know where we stand legally for having the car changed? Or what we can do from here?
They've tried their hardest to sell us 2 years warranty and now we're wondering if is because they knew of its problems.
Are we going to be better off selling it privately and getting something new?????
Thank you for any help!:(

Agreed, Ford Direct should never be selling rubbish like that.0 -
To be fair the faults up until the Engine Management Light have so far been pretty negligible.
Hose split - It's a hose.
Brakes - They wear out, especially if the car has done 35,000 around town miles.
Boot switch - pffft, it's only a switch
Tie Rod - as for brakes.0 -
You've saved yourself at least £100 by having the brakes changed, they would have gone anyway, track rod end changed another wear and tear item saving you at least another £50, hoses go randomly in my experience. Engine management lights could be anything, so let them plug it in and fix for free.
I think its not a lemon, its just a 5 year old car that has things that have wornExcel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?0 -
Its still under warranty until they fix all the problems even after warranty period expired if they haven't manage to fix the problems u highlighted.
Once they are fix, you have a decent car in the focus.0 -
See what comes up when it goes in for the juddering, as said in the grand scheme of things the problems so far are only normal wear and tear.0

There was a recall done on the PAS on the Focus, so ask if it has been done. The pipes and pump are an rsehole of a job to do on the petrol ones.
EML sounds like lambda probe or something equally similar...
You could ditch it and buy something else, but that too could have problems.................0 -

When was the last time you bothered checking the oil and water?0 -

This highlights my quandary precisely and might force me to a new car. You throw over a few grand for a motor and you have no idea what is wrong with it because you are not a mechanic and the trade is just full of spivs looking to dump a lemon on you or rip you off.0
