Hair awful

Hi I would like some advise please, I went to the hairdressers yesterday and got my hair cut. It turned out completley different from what she said she was going to do and what I wanted. She has basically butchered it, it looks like two different haircuts and I am so upset. There was no manager to speak to and won't be available until Monday. What I want to know is what are my rights over this. Problem is becuase it is so butchered it is very short and bald in parts, so I don't think cutting more will help. The only thing I can think of is putting in extensions and re cutting it. Is this something I can request from the salon legally?
Thanks

I've had some terrible haircuts in my time, real horrors. One thing about hair though, it grows back.
As you say cutting it more won't make it better, I'd chill and wait for it to grow a bit. I expect it only looks awful to you and nobody else has noticed."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -
Go back on monday and speak to the manager politely and firmly. Any decent salon will repair the damage as best they can free of charge, although extensions may be asking too much!:hello: Hiya, I'm single mom, avid moneysaver and freecycler, sometimes  but definatly0

What's the difference between a bad haircut and good haircut?
A fortnight! :rotfl:0 -
For gods sake, how old are you OP? I trust not that old if this is the first time you've ever had a bad haircut and it surely wont be the last or are you planning on taking legal action every time.0

My age is none of your business, and no I have never had a bad haircut before. I came on here for advise on where I stand legally clearly you don't know so keep your comments to yourself. It is more than just a bad haircut she has butchered it, I have bald patches and it looks like a 2 year old has taken scissors to it. You might just sit back and accept it when people do bad work and it is down to people like you that people continue to trade when they clearly can't do the job I have PAID them to do. She shouldn't be allowed to get away with this.0 -
Under the sale of goods and services act 1982, any service carried out must be done so with "reasonable care and skill".
This is very subjective and price paid has a big impact. So if you paid less for a trainee then you will have little comeback (maybe a refund) but if you paid more for a stylist etc, you expect them to be more skilled than what they have been, in which case you can pursue for damages.
Go back to them stating the above (the manager at least should know about it) and ask them to remedy it. In this case it would be:
A: give you a hairstyle you are just as happy with (will probably take a more senior stylist to achieve)
B: Give you the hairstyle you originally wanted by whatever mean necessary (extensions)
C: pay to have your hair done elsewhere.
You need to give them a chance to remedy the situation but i would push for the first or second remedy and a full/partial refund for the inconvenience.
Hope it helps, despite being a male, i know the effect of a truly bad hair cut. IT always easy for people to say things when nothings happened to them.Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -

OMG!!! Did my mum cut your hair too? :rotfl:
Seriously though, hope you get it sorted OP. Kinda hard not to be self concious about things like this when people are very much looks orientated. However i dont think people (or at least not all of them lol) meant to be rude. I think they were perhaps just trying to reassure you that although its very upsetting, its not the end of the world, your hair will grow back
Just recommend friends to avoid that salon! You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

I think you have misundestood the op. She wants to know what her rights are before going back to them as I understand it. Perfectly reasonable question on a consumer forum I would have thought. I don't think she is considering "legal action" as you put it.0 -
Thank you 4743hudsonj for your advise, the salon I went to has different price ranges depending on the hairdresses experience. I went for the top price and they assused me my hairdresser would have at least 5 years experience, I do not think this was the case.
If it can go wrong you are right I was just trying to see where I stood when I face the manager tomorrow, I am not planning on taking anyone to court, I just wanted to know that if I said something I could back it up.
I will contact the manager/owenr of the salon tomorrow and see what he can be done
