Great for the economy? Why is that? Isn't there enough unemployment already? Why do you want a bunch of third world foreigners to compete with British people for scarce jobs? You are a perfect idiot! Good for house prices? Yes, it will make them even less affordable, that's what it will do!!

You are a total scumbag. People like you should be hanged, drawn and quartered, like your compatriot William Wallace - that scene was the best one in the film for me. Scottish scum.

You have some serious issues Mark. I think you fall in to the Xeonphbic category Hamish highlighted.

Can''t even be bothered to point out all that is wrong with your post. Such Drivel.

The entire population of Britain lives in just 8% of the land mass.

Which is too high to be self sustainable.
Our population density is lower than Holland's, and much of the Uk is incredibly sparsely populated.

Holland also has a land issue, hence their efforts to reclaim land from the sea.

Great for the economy and house prices.

Not so good for xenophobes and claustrophobics...:D

Then again when babies cease to be the breadbasket under the Tory/LibDem iron fist, the future demographics may not play out as anticipated in that article.

You may have a point about London and the South East.... But that is not "Britain".

Some shocks on that list Hamish, The Vatican had better watch their population growth, and the Maldives  that was on my current holiday list, I thought it was a deserted paradise icon7.gif

Actually - i rather thought the latest news is that Britain is even more overcrowded than Holland now.

All well and good to say that we only inhabit a certain proportion of our land mass - that could be because some of Britain isnt particularly habitable (the Highlands of Scotland for instance) and "The world and his wife" all pretty much want to be in the nicest bits. Who can blame them? - but it does mean squashing up in those nicest bits......

Anyway - we DO need a lot of "countryside" for growing our food and for recreational purposes. The only other option would be trying to import an even higher percentage of our food and accepting that those of us who intend to spend our "recreation time" in the countryside couldnt do so because it had all "been drowned under a sea of concrete".

One has to have a certain Quality of Life - and having plenty of available countryside for recreation is a necessity for that (well..for some of us certainly).

    .

I have found Lincolnshire to be quite attractive empty and fairly cheap, (eg food, housing), I guess there is always a but, and in this case I reckon it must be jobs.

Definitely sustainable and to Britains benefit. Spain has a problem with depopulation and is not any richer for it.
We throw away more then we require to grow, the tragedy is that no one needs to starve

Drivel? Get real! Most people in britain do not want more immigrants. This isn't me just saying this, it has been demonstrated in numerous opinion polls, and governments of both left and right keep ignoring this. The only drivel here is from the claret slurping chattering classes and their pretentious politically correct gibberish. It is scum like you who are happy to sacrifice Britain and all that matters within it in order to make money.

I repeat: you people should face the fate of William Wallace.

By all means show me some research that demonstrates immigration hurts the economy and the country.

And by that I don't mean an article from the daily mail about an illegal immigrant who has commited a hit and run and killed a child. No doubt that person is a scumbag, but they are not a scumbag because they are an immigrant. There are plenty of white British scumbags too. Take Ian Huntley and this uproar about him sueing the government. If he were an immigrant, the story wouldn't be Ian Huntley sues, it would be "immigrant sues".

There are scumbags on all sides. It is just those without the intelligence to realise this who generalise and spout drivel.

My personal experience of immigrants - I worked with quite a few while in practice as an accountant, probably 20-30% of the staff were on work visas. Some of them were the most dedicated and hard working people I have met.

When the tesco delivery arrives, it is the eastern european chap who is the most friendly and most helpful.

When I go out for lunch, it is the cafe run by an eastern european family that I go to. Why? Becasue the shop run by the British family serves lower quality food, they take no care over it and are just a miserable bunch and on top of that charge more.

Free open markets make a country stronger in the long run. I would work with, for or alongside an immigrant every day of the week rather than someone as short sighted as yourself.

You miss the point completely. I'm not saying immigrants are all awful people etc. Far from it, very far from it. But I don't see how mass immigration can help a country; it pushes wages down by increasing availability of labour and causes serious cultural and racial divisions when there were none before. What is the good of all this? Don't we have enough problems as it is in our country? (By the way Poles and other EU immigrants are not included in my definition of immigrants. I refer to outside EU immigration, other than perhaps Gypsies).
