Will you, please, stop making me feel hungry!!
I had my lunch and there is a chocolate sponge cake, cooling next to the cooker. I have been told that it MUST NOT be touched until tea-time:mad:
They are going out in an hour and I don't know if the cake is safe:rolleyes:

All Good replies, thanks guys. But I notice no one's actually mentioned the difference in cost - yummy is right, and eating them is another problem, but which do we think is cheaper?
Must admit I hadn't considered the additives scenario thowhich was a bit daft and is a very persuasive argument.

Homemade are the yummiest - but these days you can buy cakes cheaper than you can make them.0

Sorry - all overcome by the thought of food;) . Of course, home baking will be cheaper if you compare like for like on quality. There are mass-produced cakes which will, inevitably be cheaper than what you can make a good equivalent for, but they are not the same - honest.
You could have some initial capital outlay, and one-off costs like spices, but it will even out - plus it keeps you in and away from the temptation of spending money.
Anyway - I'm off to try my daughter's Chocolate Sponge:beer:I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.

Hmmmn, I like that bit about being in and not spending - makes good sense. And, when it comes to like for like -yes, I can see that working too.
thanks!Stop looking for answers....

If you work somewhere that manufactures cakes or a shop that sells them then the chances are you will be able to buy them cheaper than you can make them.
Homemade is almost always going to be better but when I can buy cakes such as banana and walnut loaf for 20p when they go in the staff shop I'm not going to turn that down. Especially when it is delish and there are no hydrogenated fats used in making them.0 -

It's one of the main reasons why I don't leave my job!
I really dislike cooking and as I'm cooking for one I avoid doing it whenever possible.
I can't stay on that crap salary forever though, even though I probably spend less on food there than someone who earns a few grand more than me. Wish there was a way of working out how worse off I would be if I left my job.0
