Hi
I hope this is the right place for this question.
I was wondering what you experienced DFWs think of this question? I am not talking celebration cakes but run of the mill after tea stuff like banana loak, victoria sponge, tea bread etc.
I usually buy cake from Aldi (excellent) or Tesco/Asda (but not the value ones cos I think they are pretty poor value).
But now I am wondering if I would be better doing a bit more home-baking?
LET THEM EAT CAKE I SAY!

Home baking is graet and cheap. You will most likely be better off on the OS board as they have some great tips.Barclaycard 3800

HM every time, I say. You know what's in them, you can use all butter and they are LOADS cheaper than buying, especially if you put them in the oven whilst you're cooking something anyway, or do batch bakes.
Loadsa good recipes on the OS board..........:cool:I was a board guide here for many years, but have now resigned. Amicably, but I think it reflects very poorly on MSE that I have not even received an acknowledgement of my resignation! Poor show, MSE.

Plus if you bake them yourself then ...
When its Sunday evening and all the shops are shut and all you fancy is cake, flapjack or something sweet....
You've probably already got all the stuff in the cupboard and can just make a sponge and microwave it!! Hurrah!!!
Well that's my biggest plus point anyway! Yeah I do have to watch the weight!working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
homemmade all the time, they are lush, they dont last long and most important you know whats in them so they dont have all the horrible additives (as with some shops). go homemade :rotfl:0

I try to keep to home made but shop bought cakes also have their place in life like when your in a rush and havn't had time to make one or for people who are no good at making cakes.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040
