An Unrecorded Enquiry?

Going through my Experian searches I noticed one company I'd applied to had done a Credit search, a generic search and also an 'unrecorded enquiry'? Experian say these unrecorded enquiries are NOT for lending purposes, so if they have done an id check plus the main credit check, what's it for?

Most likely you did an insurance search? I know when I did a home insurance and car insurance search through confused.com an unrecorded enquiry usually pops up.0
