It`s doing my head in as I want a payg new mobile. I use it mainly for texting & very rarely for calls. I`ve looked on line at all the different networks, but they all sound good. Any recomendations please. Thanks

The T-mobile PAYG tariff has the option to change to "Text Appeal". All text messages to UK networks then cost only 3p each, but any cross network calls are 40p per min. O2 still do their Text Anytime 300 text for each £10 top-up (which must be made monthly). Calls are 25p for the each of the first 3 mins, then 5p per min for the rest of the day.
If you really do only need texts, then T-mobile works out the cheapest and they have quite a reasonable range of PAYG phones, though they are sometimes cheaper if you shop around.
"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.

The deal with o2 is one of the best PAYG deals around -

£10 - £14 top up each month gives you 300 free UK texts
£15 - £29 top up each month gives you 500 free UK texts
  • Shows how "daft" I am Tedrick. I don`t want an expensive phone, but would like a camera & possibly a flip one. Err I thought candybar was a chocolate Thanks.

    £10 spent with T-mobile gives you 333 texts, £20 = 666 texts.
    £10 spent with O2 gives you 300 texts, £20 = 500 texts.
Having always been loyal to O2, I've recently bought my son's PAYG phone on T-Mob. The range of phones was greater than that offered by O2, and they were relatively £10 - £20 cheaper to buy. I got the SE W300i (OK if you can ignore/change the Robbie Williams content!) from Comet.

  • I could be wrong here but I think O2 is the better deal as you get the free texts and still have your £10 credit, whereas with T-mobile you have to pay for the texts.

lipsthefish is correct, the £10 u top up with, doesnt acctually get used when you text

so you get 300 texts, but still have the £10 to use for calls, im pretty sure this doent happen with t-mobile or anyone else

:o Yep I stand corrected! Works out at 400 texts for £10.
But you do have to top up each month to get the free texts.
