Fixed Price Oil

I have been offered a fixed price of 37.5 pence for all oil for 1 year with my current supplier. Not knowing how the prices may rise and fall, is this a good offer or should I play the phoning around all local suppliers. Don't know if makes any difference but I'm in Scotland.

It is a bet, and to me does not sound like a good one
Certainly, that is higher than my current price and I am hoping that prices will fall
However, if prices rose above 40p, then it would look like great judgement
Only hind sight will tell, but for me, I would pass0 -
It all depends on what the wholesale price does. If there is more instability in the middle east it will once again rocket (not meaning to sound harsh but thankfully, Thailand doesn't have oil reserves) I'm hoping that the price will continue to fall as it has been doing lately. We must be due to get some oil soon as well and with a 2000L tank, every penny makes a difference.
Try calling round and even if other suppliers don't give you a better price, knock a penny or two off before asking your current supplier to match/beat it.0 -
Actually...... Oil is not like gas where you are on one pipe and you have to take the stuff that comes into your house.
why not sign up with your supplier at the best price you can get. Then if the price drops, get little top ups from a cheaper supplier. Your supplier need never know!0 -
I'm in Scotland as well and there are not as many suppliers around up here.
Try phoning GB oils, Brogan, Highland Fuels.
I was quoted 34.5p/litre yesterday from GB oils (AKA Scottish Fuels).
Sometimes they do 'special offers' such as £10 off if you take delivery before a certain date etc.....or you may get a discount by paying within 7 days of delivery etc....
Dont be afraid to get the best quote - then phone the next closest up to see if they can beat the price.
Pay by your cashback credit card 34.5p x 1500 litres = £517.50. Even at 1% cashback that = £5.17 'discount' (every penny helps)
Also Fill up BEFORE the really cold weather. I have found that now is a good time (depending on oil barrel price to some degree). In December & Jan the price has a 'habit' of increasing (supply and demand I guess!).
Remember that at 3p/litre extra (37.5p vs 34.5p) thats £45 EXTRA for 1500litres!!
Also a WORD OF WARNING.....dont ever let your tank get really low...if you do the 'gunge' that collects in the bottom of the tank may, at best, block your filter up, or, at worst - damage your Aga,Boiler etc.... This will cost LOTS of £££ to put right and will wipe out any savings you may have made!! Worse than that it always happens when its -10c outside!! keep an eye on the level -especially during periods of heavy usage during the colder months.
Hope this helps.I am NOT a Woman! - its Overland Landy (as in A Landrover that travels Overland)

For a comparison, try putting your postcode into http://www.boilerjuice.com/ to see what their current quote is. For me today it come out at 31.85p per litre0

I just found out about Boilerjuice.com and afer doing a rather lengthy check of prices, they had the best quote. They also have a special deal twice monthly (coming up THIS WEEKEND!) where if others in your postcode are also interested in filling their tanks, everyone benefits. It's a husband and wife team and should you have a query or two they answer emails quickly!
From their website, this is how it works:
Buying Weekends take place on first and third weekends of each calendar month - starting just after midnight on the Friday morning and ending at midnight on the Sunday evening.
Notification email is sent to all members on the Monday prior to the first Buying Weekend of the month. An additional reminder email is sent when each Buying Weekend starts.
To order, simply follow the link in your reminder email, or on your BoilerJuice members control panel. You will be given a quote first, and then you simply confirm your details to complete the process.
At the close of the Buying Weekend all the orders from your postcode area are totalled up. If the overall volume is greater than the minimum grouping volume (currently 2400 litres) then the orders will be grouped together to obtain a cheaper price for you. If a cheaper price is not available you can place your order anyway at the price you were originally quoted, or you can choose to cancel the order - so you have nothing to lose!
Personally, I'm hoping for others in my postcode this weekend (GU8)!
