Yes I know it depends on the size of windows how many openings how many pannels yadda yadda....

I live in a 1940 semi with 8 window (2 of them a bay sort of) and I need a side door and a patio door...

I have just been quoted £7500. He was a nice guy from a small local company. He was not a sales man.

Now for my problem... About 1 month ago I invited Zennith around. They out stayed their welcom by 5 hours and started the quoat @ 17,000 but by the end of the 'dance of the i will just phone my manager' it was only 6000.

So what do I do? I hate Zenneth now. They wouldn't leave. but they are cheaper.
How much did you pay for your windows and doors?

I paid 2000 for the back of the house with coldseal who are now called something else.

Did a good job on ours but next doors was awful, depends on the fitter.

We just bought a new bathroom window to fit ourselves from a company called https://www.yourpricewindows.com, based in surrey, 80 quid supply only, but it's about half the cost of anyone else, I think they do supply and fit too.

I was in a similar situation but in reverse almost a year ago just prior to having our hardwood double glazed windows fitted.

Our situation was that just two weeks before installation they turned round and said they'd under costed it by 10% and wanted an extra £800. As we'd already signed the contract, I started legal action through our home insurance legal cover and they soon changed their tune after one threatening letter from the solicitor reminding them of their contractual obligations.

Could it be that they could do the same to you but in reverse?

i would go with the local guy,big companys can equal big problems, lady round the corner had windows from them, they were so badly fitted they refused to pay, they got a independant person round to inspect and they agreed, needless to say zenneth never tryed to get there 140000

Talk to the local guy and get him to reduce his quote to £6K. His quote sounds a little on the high side to me but the devil may be in the detail.

well I got another 2 quotes... the next one was £6259
and the final one was £4156 and if I say 'yes' by Sat he will take £100 pounds off.
Now my suspicious mind is saying why so cheap?
But I can't find any bad reviews and the company has been going for 25 years.

I work in a window factory and have been fitting upvc for 20 years now. Make sure you are comparing like for like there are a lot of different profiles about ie Rehau, PlusPlan etc Same with the fittings, do you want windows with shoot bolts or just espagnolette locking etc Some firms will be BSI, BBA passed some will not If you do not know much about what you are buying be careful as there are a lot of cowboys and crap window systems about.

Stevegray... what would you recomend for simple plane windows.

The windows made from Rehau profile are nice, the profile holds its colour well, the 60mm profile has nice looking beads and you should be able to pick if, what, you want reinforced and what fittings (espagnolette,shoot bolts or reversible sash etc) I actually bought Rehau windows for my house from elsewhere as we were using PlusPlan.

Ask to go and see some work that has been done locally - we have just had our 10 windows, 2 doors and a patio done and they were the dearest quote but had a good reputation by word of mouth. This is what I would advocate you do.

ok so now I have found the people I would like to do my windows and doors. the quote is £5700... Can I ask them to do it for £5500?
If so please give me a script. I am horrid at bartering.
