    Hi guys,

the telly is this one http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/3/37pf5520d_10/37pf5520d_10_pss_eng.pdf

We`ve had it a while now and it only has a DVI and not an hdmi, it was sort of like the vhs/betamax debate ages ago and as usual we chose the one that ended up being least popular in the end - dvi and the standard ended up being hdmi, usual case with our luck :D

I posted this thread recently too https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2631831

The cable is here and the humax box arrives sometime on Friday so just need to source a cable for the sound now.

I`ll ignore the CI slot if its no use and just see how we go when everything arrives. If i can`t find a cable for the sound then i`ll try scart connections i think. Would i be able to use hdmi to dvi for the picture and scart for the sound or is that a daft question? :o

Oh dear, that was my suggestion - better not be here on Friday in case it's the wrong cable!

If you've got a spare SCART lead lying around it won't harm to try, but it almost certainly won't work, as the TV ~should~ suppress all inputs on the SCART socket when the DVI input is active.

At a guess, a cable that you use to connect from an MP3 player headphone socket to a normal hi-fi (3.5mm stereo jack to twin male phono plugs) will ~probably~ work for the audio.

Your Scart lead will work in SD only, however you will not get any HD through that connection.

I'm fairly sure that your suggestion will not work.

DVI didn't fail, it's a computer standard, HDMI is a TV standard. The signal is actually the same inside, except that HDMI has copy protection and can also carry sound. So DVI is the best you can do on this TV so the cable's right! You now need sound, and since your TV doesn't have an optical IN, you want to just use stereo phono to stereo phono - you know, the red and white plugs. There is an output on the back of the Humax, and an input on the front or side of your TV. I just hope the TV uses that input along with DVI...

    Thankyou :D

I`m sure that i`ve seen a cable with phono plugs somewhere, hope it wasn`t in the bundle of stuff that i gave away on freecycle:eek:

I`ll have a look around and see if i still have it later. I didn`t know that about dvi so thanks for the info, i`m on a learning curve here :o

Hopefully tomorrow night i shall be able to sit down and have a play around with it - can`t wait :D

Ta-da! its all up and running and its fab! :D

Didn`t have sound at first as it turned out that the phono sockets on the telly didn`t like the connection from the new box. New cable purchased for the sound from the local market for £3 and the phonos from the box are now connected to the sound socket on the telly and its great.

Can`t wait to get a longer ethernet cable next to get iplayer on it :D

Thanks for all your help peeps, i`d still be sat on the floor amongst a tangle of cables without you :kisses3:
