Hi, does anyone know if this will work with our current setup please?
We have an ordinary sky box with a single lnb and a tv with built in freeview. We also have freesat from sky with no subscription. What i would like to do is replace the sky box with this http://www.humaxdirect.co.uk/product.asp?ProdRef=10076&cat=&page=2#reviews
I would like to run if from the single dish feed and also plug the tv ariel into it too.
I know that to get the full functionality we would need to upgrade the lnb to a double but until we can we would be happy to just watch and record from the single feed.
What i really need to know is will this box be ok with freesat from sky instead of ordinary freesat and will i also be able to record from freeview? I know that most of the channels are the same but every now and again our freeview goes off altogether so it would be nice to have both options if possible.
I get confused with all the options so some good advice would be appreciated as i don`t want to buy something that won`t do what we want it to.
Thanks
SD

Since your freeview comes from a terrestrial transmitter and into your TV from an aerial if it does go off because of a fault from a terrestrial transmitter or your aerial then the Humax FOXSATHDR-G will not make any difference because it does not receive freeview so you will not be able to record a freeview channel.0

Freesat uses the same satellites as Sky so there's no problem there - simply unplug the cable from the dish from the back of your Sky Digibox and plug it into the Humax. You already know the limitations of using one cable so again, no problem.0 -

No, it receives Freesat and most of the channels are the same. So if the OP wants to record ITV2, they'll still be able to.0 -

yes, but not from FREEVIEWwill i also be able to record from freeview?0 -
Thanks peeps,
i think that i understand a bit better now, the box will record from my freesat from sky setup but not from the freeview through the arial. I`ve taken the plunge and ordered the box
What has been saved through cancelling my sky subs last year has more than paid for the box so i`m a happy bunny.
Thanks again.

Yep, it's got nothing to do with Sky (except that it uses the same dish and satellites) so you'll be watching Freesat, not freesatfromsky.
You already understand the limitations of your setup, ie you can only watch or record 1 channel at a time on the box. Remember that whilst the box is recording, you can watch your TV's freeview no problem, so it'll be a bit like having a TV and video again. 2nd feed from the dish would be nice (and really not that expensive depending on your house and making sure you ring around for quotes, let's say £50 all in) but maybe your viewing habits mean you won't need to do it.
Remember to plug the Humax into your net connection so that you can watch iPlayer on it (plus other 'catch up' stuff later...)0 -
One other hopefully minor point is that the channel lineup of FreeSat and Freesat from Sky are not identical so if you've formed an attachment for some obscure channel or other it may not be in the Freesat program guide (although there may well be some convoluted way to tune to it).0

Thanks everyone
i`ve ordered the cable, this is the one http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000GDI6FC/ref=oss_product
I`ve not ordered the sound cable yet though as i can`t seem to find what i`m looking for. Will keep looking though.
I seem to remember reading in all the bumf found online that the lnb cable from the dish can be plugged into the lnb in socket then a loop from the lnb out to the 2nd lnb in socket on the humax box, does anyone know what this will achieve as i`m a bit confused as to the point of doing this.
The instructions that i found online suggest that there is something called a CI slot that will take a module insert that in turn will take a viewing card so maybe that will be something to look at later if i find that we miss any channels, i`ll probably end up blowing the telly upas i`m on information overload at the moment.
Thanks guys

The CI slot in a Freesat box isn't useful right now AFAIK, so just ignore it.
The connections you want are - Connect the 2 cables from the dish into the 2 inputs on the Humax. Then connect the 'loop' cable from the out on the Humax to the In on the TV.
I don't understand why you've ordered an HDMI - DVI cable? Surely you want an HDMI - HDMI cable, this carries the picture and sound - does your TV not have HDMI?0
