I don't know why people agree to paperless accounts anyway.

It causes trouble in the long run as there is always some organisation who wants your paper records and if you don't have them, you have to wait to obtain them.

I prefer paperless as I don't even open my bank statements when they arrive in the post. I've got a big stack of unopened envelopes in my bedroom, I don't need to open them because I check my online banking every day. If I need a statement for proof of address then I can just order a paper one.

I prefer as much as possible paperless because we have a serious theft problem from the Royal Mail where we live, so I try to minimise receiving documentation that could be used for identity purposes through the post.

    To deal with Nationwide:

1 Move some or all of your savings elsewhere
2 Write a letter of complaint, explaining why you did this.

After that, should we organise some candidates for election their board next year?

I quite fancy it. After all, should be possible to get my snout well & truly in the trough & still have enough left over not to shaft the customers in the same way they are doing at present.

Move some or all of your savings elsewhere

...but not yet jonesjw. Remember to keep the minimum in a savings account so you can vote at the next AGM as a member!

My first ever savings account as a child was with the Nationwide and still held today some 30 years later. I opened a savings account for my daughter as a young child to help her save. I have an ISA with the Nationwide, a Nationwide credit card and yes I sinfully "abused" the Nationwide by having a Flexaccount that I used to take free cash withdrawals from when overseas.

I received my "proud to be different" letter telling me about the Flexaccount changes on 25th August. I found this thread on MSE and read all 500+ posts and can see it is not just me that is seathing at the Nationwide. What a truely rotten attitude to take after self promoting how they want to be different from the rest, the "tips for the shareholders bubbly" commercial and from a building society that is after all a "mutual" and owned by many of the posters on this site.

Well Mr Rhodes, you can place your Flexaccount where the sun doesn't shine. But also following will be all my other business...but not just yet!

I'll be keeping £101 in my savings account so I can vote at the next AGM and voice again against the disloyalty shown by you and all the other Directors who are supporting you in this folly - plus keeping the minimum in the account so I can benefit from when the Nationwide eventually loses it's mutual status - which I now hope it does.

I'll keep a £1 in the Flexaccount just to keep it open, add £10 every few months and three days later withdraw it - just to ensure your administartion costs to service my account are maintained, and you can post me paper statements.

I've already cut up my Nationwide credit card (you'll get that in the post) and yesterday applied on line for a Halifax Clarity card (all very easy and accepted).

I'm opening a Metro Bank account because they offer me what you don't care to.

I'm moving my daughters savings account and my ISA elsewhere. Somewhere that is "Different".

I thought I was a loyal customer. I thought and believed in the Nationwide being a mutual, owned by it's Customers, being different. You are no different - the Nationwide has changed and I hope you do read all these comments and petitions that are being voiced by your members - and understand the upset and anger you are creating.

    ToDaLoo Mr Rhodes.

I hope next year we remember this at AGM time. From what I recall, the questions were worded as "Elect Mr XYZ to the board". Agree/Disagree/Abstain. A targeted effort here would be great!
I've never voted in all the 20-odd years I've been with Nationwide, because
    1) until now I've been reasonably happy with their services
    2) tbh I've never been able to work out who to vote for

if anyone knowledgeable here can point me in the right direction for next year's AGM I'll definitely be making my (small) voice heard

Anything the current Board of Directors recommends - vote against!

Any Director seeking re-election - vote against.

Let's hope Martin or another MSE member stands to be elected who champions for the Nationwide members. Wouldn't it be great to see the AGM paperwork and ballot papers coming out with Martin's name on them!

A friend has all her banking and utilities paper-free. However she came a cropper when a transaction she was trying to carry out wouldn't accept downloaded copies of bills and statements. They wanted original hard copies.

that's not good at all, it's now making me think twice about my paperless billing, although I've successfully used downloaded & printed statements in the past, I must have just been lucky not to run into a company who wanted originals

apart from the inconvenience of having to wait to get them, do you know if your friend was charged for the copies?
