Because they are just turning into a clone of a bank.
Bunch of clowns.I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0 -
I've had my reply from Nationwide, the most interesting comment was:
'I do understand your concerns and I acknowledge that you are not alone in really appreciating the existing arrangements'
I guess that means that they have had to write lots of letters but are taking no notice anyhow. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
Living for most of the year in Greece I have been looking round for other ways to get euros from my UK accounts. I have come across a site called nobanx.com which looks quite good, 1.20 fee and good exchange rates. Anybody else looked at it?0
-
Interesting information shared with useful and helpful ideas and good topic.0

Returning to nobanx, they describe themselves as a community, putting people who want euros in touch with people who want sterling, acting as the broker. Current rate is 1.216, any amount can be exchanged, subject to the amount other people are looking to trade so not good for large sums but v.good for smaller regular amounts. The one drawback for holidaymakers is they arrange free transfer to European bank of your choice. I think this is the road I shall be going down0

What a way to attract customers? I appreciate that customers who use the account for their holidays only are proving costly to the BS. However, wouldn't it be a better PR exercise to encourage/advise existing customers to keep so much (say £500) in the account at all times and apply the charges to those customers who do not. That way it's a win win situation for both BS & customers alike.
Just a thought.0 -
It's unfortunate that BBC Moneybox is off the air, for it's summer break, until Sept 8th. Have any other of the mass media covered our concerns?
Anyway everyone here can write to moneybox in order for our views to be aired on an edition soon after it returns.

Nationwide,if they had any sense, would have weeded out those who use the account just for holiday funds and applied new T & Cs to them or terminated their accounts instead of peeing off lots of long term, loyal customers who are now itching to seek retribution in some way.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

Well, I am going the opposite way to everyone else - I am closing another (3rd) account with A&L & sticking with Nationwide. Am fed up with A&L as their on line site is atrocious. I can never work out how to send them a message. Logged on this morning to find a £5 under funding charge - links on site to T&C's wasn't working & when I found the option to send them a message it went round in circles, asking me to log in although I already was. Finally phoned them and had £5 refunded as it shouldn't have been applied (and to be fair, it appeared back in my account within minutes). I have a few small transactions to come out, will then close it next weekend.
However, I am not happy with Nationwide. Especially when I watched the 'tips' advert again. My revenge will be to use this account as my 'pay every spare penny to the mortgage account'. So, have changed paypal, quidco etc over to it, £1.22 in from quidco will be transferred back out. Lots of piddly little payments each month, they certainly won't be able to say I'm not using it, in addition to my €10 a day withdrawals next month :rotfl:.
Will keep a look out for another account or other options but have until March as winter holiday is to Gambia so will be taking cash & changing in resort.A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

To whom it may concern
FOR THE ATTENTION OF ALL NATIONWIDE PERSONNEL IN EVERY DEPARTMENT
The introduction of the changes to customers ‘Flex-Accounts’ from the First of November 2010 , will completely destroy my personal circumstances.
Because of serious health problems, I spend most of each year in Majorca, as advised by my Doctor. I rely heavily on ATM cash withdrawals, to pay for my apartment and living expenses.
The exchange rate (£-Euro) has declined considerably, over the last 3-4 years: Thanks to the world financial crisis, caused by ALL the financial Institutions throughout the world (Mainly in America and the UK). It has been of considerable help to me, to obtain the highest rate of exchange available on each withdrawal, with no commission charges.
The introduction of ‘FREE’- Travel Insurance , is of no use to me. I am over 65, and your agents inform me they would require £100.00, to effect cover for my health conditions. This £100.00 would be over and above my current personal Travel Insurance.
Because of the changes to my Flex-Account, I must now return to the UK. It will be a question of how much longer I will live in the UK.
I would like to thank those at the Nationwide responsible for introducing the changes to the Flex-Account, either of which will be of no use to me.
You will be responsible for hastening my death.
Mr. F. S. Jessop0
