I have checked internet speed and was using wireless router. Tried using a wired connection just to see and there is no difference.

Is building a pc something anyone can do? I am thinking of giving it a go.

    Explain more about the lag?

What security software/firewall are you using? Does it lag after a hibernation?

Look for a new PC desktop base unit, keep the rest of the kit,
    E-buyer
    OR
CPC Farnell - they have a dual core Asus with Win 7 for £339

I use them for PC parts etc a lot over last 10 years
    Simple, very fast and reliable.
You just set up a personal account - they are usually wholesale, but i have a personal a/c, ie Pay with the order like just like Amazon.
