HTC Wildfire & Tesco sim?

Hi,
Reading threads on this forum I fancy buying the 'HTC Wildfire' sim free, from either Play.com or Amazon.

Would I be able to put my current Tesco Mobile sim card in and just carry on using as I have been with my current Sony Ericsson K800i phone?

TIA

As long as it is SIM free, then yes you would.

What sort of data plan do you have with Tesco Mobile? I have a Wildfire and I'm very pleased with it - just be aware that there are a lot of apps that require data access and update in the background.

    thanks Llyllyll,

At the moment I just top up £10 every 2 months or so,as I dont make many long calls and few texts.

I just want a phone with a half decent camera with a flash and a bigish screen and to use it 'pay as you go'.

Is it essential to have a data plan?
I know Tesco do an 'unlimited browsing 7 day pass' for £2, which sounds not too bad to me.

You could try GiffGaff. They are also PAYG (or you can buy goodybags - which is more like a 30 day rolling contract). They use the O2 network (same as Tesco) and have genuinely unlimited data plans.

If you decide to give them a go can you let me know so that I can refer you?

    Thanks

Am I right in thinking I can use giffgaff 'pay as you go' and get free unlimited internet?
I dont make many calls a week.
    There must be a catch.

Yes, correct. Free unlimited internet for all customers until 1st October. You'll also find they offer the best rates in the UK - 8ppm calls, 4p per text.

The only catch is that they use o2's mobile signal - which, in my experience, is 'patchy' at best. You'll be able to get reception most places, but not amazing 3G signal (for fast internet) unless you're in a popular location

Honestly, giffgaff is the cheapest at the moment full stop. Get in there whilst the half price goody bags are on and its even cheaper. I'm only going to be paying £7.50 per month until October for 300 mins, unlimited texts and internet (you can buy goodybags and have another 'queued up'). Brilliant value. Left O2 simplicity for giffgaff, as it uses O2 network, so good coverage for me.
