  • when the truth is many have the oppotunity whilst unemployed(long term) to get qualifications and a better chance of a better paid job... and choose not to

Oh do wake up. We have teachers, doctors, nurses, midwives, and graduates absolutely GALORE qualifying and not finding work. Just read the papers.

We've got long term and very, very experienced people in the 'trades' not getting work ( electricians, plumbers, etc etc )..

Colleges and Universities are hoplessly oversubscribed this year.. and are facing massive cuts to their budgets next year.

Get real with the 'education = better chance' thing. It just ain't happening ( unfortunately) at the moment. Don't get so sucked in and actually LOOK at what's happening around you regarding the education system.

The ones in it, even for bona-fide accepted 'professional' jobs are being churned out every 6 months with no jobs for them. Those that are just starting on the path, the young school leavers, a lot of them aren't even going to get a place on a course !

What next for them then ? Long-term unemployed ? Going back to college in order to gain those 7 standard grades/o levels/ a levels / highers or whatever is needed just to get a chance at a course the young school leavers are already competing for.. and with massive cuts down the line still to come.

The jobs aren't there even for those that already have degree's.
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

It still seems impossible to get a plasterer or plumber out for less than £2 to £300 per day for private work.

Ok let me educate you and be sure to "Keep up".We have had over the past 10-15 yrs a total collapse in apperenticeships. It began in the recession of the 90,s when many, many small to medium sized companies in Engineering, construction etc went bust.It was these companies that trained the workforce.

People will always need a house to live in, engineering in many cases is returning after being out sourced to India.Yes I am fully aware that times are tough, BUT we will come through this and any company be it big or small will be better prepared when things pick up.

The biggest problem has been that students were told to go to university and get a degree, it didn't matter what the subject was ,it was the thing to do. Sorry but IMO that was total boll0x.

The reason that graduates such as Doctors and teachers are struggling to find work is two fold, firstly jobs are being cut ,but secondly and more important is that there are too many of them, too many people studying for the same job.........

Ive been a carpenter and Joiner for 24 yrs , the quality of workmanship in general now is dire, the sole reason for this is people can't get "proper training", 6 months or 1 year courses give an insight but thats it..........I'm booked up for months, I'm lucky but I also know I do a decent job, won't be long before good plumbers,Joiners etc are as rare as Rocking Horse sh1te.....Won't be long before we will be earning more than a lawyer:D.....Common as muck they are....

To sum up, far too many people are choosing the same careers......simple as

I would give council tenants no greater rights than those that privately rent.

I cannot understand why they currently have better security.
