Using Sky+ box as freeview

Posting query on behalf of my dad. He doesn't want to subscribe to Sky any more but has a Sky+ box which he doesn't want to lose the use of for recording programmes. If he cancels his Sky sub he can keep the box but will all of the usual functionality (pause/rewind live TV as well as recording) still work?
TIA.
TIA.

Firstly you can't get any Freeview channels via your Sky box. Freeview is a terrestial service only.
If he cancels his sub then he will still receive all the non-subscription (FTV) channels, but the Sky+ functionality will be lost, to retain this he will have to pay £10 a month. If we wants PVR functions then better to switch to Freesat using a Humax Foxsat HDR or similar box. The existing dish, cabling and LNB can be retained, it's simply a box swap.No free lunch, and no free laptop
