Same thing with me, the 0800 number didnt work either. Cant imagine how long it is going to take for them to close mine and send a cheque then???? Ridiculous0

Hi there
I have an A&L online saver issue 5. I recently authorised (via the A&L website) a direct debit to be taken from my linked current account to be paid into this. After 8 days it had still not arrived. Spent 20 mins on their 0844 number trying to convince them of the magnitude of the problem (since my linked bank said it was not their problem, as I had authorised the DD in the first place).
To cut a long story short, finally received the transfer into my OnlineSaver issue 5, 10 working days later! I suspect this was only because I had phoned them in the first place...
Grounds for a complaint, me thinks....0 -
I have had an HSBC/Midlands A/c for 55 years, it,s my linked A/c to all my ONLINE A/c,s, and there are several. The online A/c,s create more 08 phone calls then my 55 years with HSBC.I do not know of 1 online A/c that I have opened and closed without having to make 0845/0844 calls.I thought the Online was so these calls were eliminated, but all they have become is a cash cow for the banks. The online is only the advertising lure for all their A/cs. then it becomes just an over complicted branch/phone A/cbronzeharness1 wrote: »Hi there

Joe 123 couldnt agree more. Over a week now to close my a/c no cheque arrived yet, online saver 5 still active! Cant wait to get this transferred into my better rate account, losing interest daily, and cant wait to part co with Santander. Has anyone received a cheque for closing their online 5 yet, and if so how long did it take? Thank you fof all replies.0

I closed mine on 2nd August and still waiting for the cheque to arrive. Agree that it's ridiculous that it takes two weeks to close an online account and to send a cheque. Will never go near Santander's accounts again no matter how good the rate.0

So,just to confirm ,when you close the said account, you can't see the interest added, then transfer the whole amount to your linked account? You have to have a cheque from them? I suppose what i could do is wait till october when the interest is added and then transfer the whole lot.
I have only left £10 in there after transferring the rest out recently.I closed my B and B with much less trouble than this and that is Santander too.0 -
Correct froglet! When I rang to close account was told no problem, will transfer funds into your linked account within 5 days. A week went by, then I received a call from A ;& L on Monday saying that they could only transfer funds electronically into another Santander account, I would be sent a cheque if that is what I wanted. Said that would be OK but the initial person I spoke to obviously didnt know their policy with regard to closing this account! Still waiting and they couldnt tell me the closing balance. Worn out with them!0

I couldn't do any transactions on line - my plan was to empty the account and then close it.
After several phone calls they told me to go into an A&L branch to close the account - despite it being an online account (kinda defeats the purpose). When I went into my local branch, the girl put her head in her hands and said - why are they telling people to come in here?
Eventually, with all staff in the branch helping - the account was closed and I was given a cheque with interest added.
Now just got to tackle closing my husbands account - he has an online saver 6 or 7 so have a bit more time, but can't wait to get shot of this 3rd rate bank0 -
Hi everyone, just an update. Had a major panic this afternoon. Logged into my A & L account to see if it was still there, came up unavailable, great I thought, things are moving in the right direction. Printed out my statement !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ACCOUNT CLOSURE CREDITIED TO AND THEN A NUMBER AND SORT CODE I DIDNT RECOGNISE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!On phone straight away, didnt recognise my pin!!!!!! Re rang, still didnt recognise my pin but put on hold to speak to someone. Eventually after hanging on for ages explained what had happend, they went off, then came back to say that this number is actually Santanders holding account!!!!!! A cheque will be issued shortly. I suggested that they should explain this when people log on, it will send people into a blind panic that their money has gone into someone elses account. He did agree with me, and he had no idea this number was their holding account number!!! Just thought this may help others who may see this. And yes ES10 they certainly are a 3rd rate bank, feel all I do recently is dis this lot!0

Thanks for your post, Juicyjude. I noticed the same thing in my account and was going to phone Santander today too. This is just another example of how little they care about the customer. Like you, I cannot wait for the day I'm shot of them.0
