Well a bit of an update as OH noticed pup next door was not barking anymore.

and i am fumming, but relieved at the same time.

Basically their brats have been nipped by the pup so they got rid of her, funny that becuase gizzmo the cat when he lived there had to hide from the brats because they wouldn't leave him alone.

Fortunately (I hope) pup has gone to the brother of womans husband (they got married)

the brother has other dogs and pup has settled in immediately, happy, doesn't bark, doesn't bite, they are surprised at the change in her... really!!!!

So OH asks what they have to replace the dog, oh tropical fish he says.... /face palm

even the rabbits and rabbit hutch has gone.

Really these people get animals just for the cuteness and get rid when they start to grow.

Won't be long before the fish are gone, cost more money on the electric, needs cleaning of tank on a regular basis, can you get diseases from tropical fish? love to tell them that so they get rid of them and give them a better home.

I was so angry the other night when OH told me i wanted to ring the RSPC to tell them of the way these people treat animals, but i guess they wouldn't do anything :(

OH was also a bit mad at them, just because we had always said we would have her.

Perry our dog may not get on with her now, but i am sure they would of done with a bit of time, company for each other, addition to the pack etc :(

We had some like this down our street... had a rottweiler who was never ever walked and who spent half the day jumping at the windows going ballistic when people walked past.... rehomed. Then they got another dog who seemed fairly calm and placid - spent the entire time out in their back garden, or since it wasn't properly secure, in our back garden and another neighbour's back garden (they refused to believe he'd got out when we told them the first five or six times). Then they got a kitten - absolutely beautiful little guy with the nicest character I've come across in a mog - spent 99% of his time raking the streets, would try desperately to come into our house and would wait for me getting home sat on my wall for a hello chat and an earscratch. Hell they had this little guy out in the massively freezing weather before Christmas.

They've moved away now - good job because the way things were going I was going to indulge in a spot of catnapping for the lil man.

Thanks for the update. So the next creatures to suffer are the fish.I have tropicals and cold water. They need a lot of time and care spent on them, not to mention money if you want to see them happy and healthy.Though it can be done on the cheap IF you know what you are doing.A few small fish in a reasonable size tank are fine, but they do need a bit of knowledge. They probably won't have the chance to rehome them.Likely they will die first. Then they will blame the shop where they got them, get some more and probably after it happens again they will give up.Trouble is,what then? will they just go through the whole range of pets before they give up and realise they should just be concentrating on their children instead?

my dad used to have tropical fish, i haven't a clue about them, but knew dad spent time and money on them..

It's just really frustrating that they will go through life with various animals not having a clue on really caring for them, and when the animal turns.. it will always be the animals fault.

Eveytime the neighbour see's gizzmo now he calls him a traitor, in a joke way, but what he hasn't seen is the time and patience we have given gizzmo in settling down, i wasn't a cat person, take em or leave them, but then gizzmo moved into OH's home and when i stay over there, i have the dog on one side of the bed, and gizz jumps up and insists on his midnight scatchies (me spending ages scrathing under his chin, behind the ears etc).

I saved his life the other day, having a nice soak in OH bath, i can't have the door shut as perry and gizz like to come in, perry to protect and gizz wants to play fishing with my toes..

but this time round up he jumps on the side of the bath, and tries to turn around on the thin side, slips..... i'm sat in very hot water, so move my right arm quick to stop him touching the water, all cat and claws scramble, claws inbedded in my arm, horror on his face as i launch him from my arm, he does a mid air back twist flip, lands on the floor and spends 10 mins under the bed wondering what happened. But once i got out was ok, didn't run off.. phew.

  • I work in the town where that dog was put down. That's depressing. :( That one is known as an expensive vet but that doesn't matter- wouldn't you at least check your insurance covered you before you bred and you were ready for emergencies? Why on earth would anyone think this world needs more staffies or staffie crosses- didn't these people watch that BBC show on Battersea and the unwanted Staffies the other day?!

And oh god the story of someone kicking the shepherd brought tears to my eyes. What's the matter with people? How can they abuse animals like that. And as for just buying a dog to keep it locked out in the garden.

Gettingready agree that some rescues have priorities wrong. We don't have a garden either, means the dogs have to go out very regularly, at least 3 times a day, though there is a yard area they can pee in if they feel the need. Dedicated people, the type that should care for these dogs, can work past that.
