Sorry long rant but its frustrating that i can't really do anything about.
OH lives next door to a family of mum dad and 4 kids, all under 5
They have trouble controlling their kids, they claimed once that the eldest had adhd, and when i bought this up a few days ago they claim he hasn't been diagnosed with it.
Based on what she can barely cook, it's more likely behaviour problems with too many additives and the fact that from about 6.30am onwards until they are taken to school the kids scream continuously, this is not an exaggeration.
anhoo that's one of the problems, the other is stressing me now.
They had a cat called Gizmo, lovely cat, who spent most of his time in his area on the veggie rack away from the kids... but spent more time at OH house where it was peace and quiet and no kids to torment him. Eventually Gizmo moves in with OH and has been there for a good year and a half.
Neighbour was a bit miffed that the cat moved in with OH, but accepted that this is what cats do, and goes out and gets a golden lab, who had been in a animal shelter, had no bark due to being mistreated before,
Now Archie the lab was a lovely thing, beautiful temperament, the man loves dogs and the woman isnt keen so Archie spent most of the time outside in the garden, only came in if raining or bedtime. Archie obviously was bored so chewed huge holes in the kids giant trampoline (you know those huge ones with netting) he used to jump up and sit on it and chew away. But the lovely thing was, he recovered from what ever evil happened to him, bless him he found his bark, although a weird bark, but a bark all the same.
But she didn't want to the dog, and OH and me did talk about taking him as we thought he was so lovely, but having my jack russell (jealous pup he is) and me having MS, we felt that i could not cope with such a large dog, who would need lots and lots of lovely long walks that i would not be able to manage, so we were sad to hear Archie was taken to the animal shelter. ( I do hope he found a nice new home with a loving family)
And then a matter of weeks later they have a jack Russell puppy, she is a lovely miniture jack russell (although they claim she is - she looks like a normal jack russell)
She isn't going to be spayed until she is a year, apparently they said it's normal for her to have 1 litter first then have her done, i never had female dog so cant say if this is right.
But it's started all over again, she doesn't want the dog in the house so the poor thing is crated and left outside or just left outside, again bored, nothing or no one to play with, and her howling is so pitiful, its upsetting me to hear her. If it's not the kids i can hear all the time screaming all day, its the poor dog outside, i just want to scoop her up and give her a cuddle.
OH said she is starting to look skinny, and where as before if he called her she would bound over to him tail waggling etc, now she kinda cowers and looks at you as if to say, your not going to to hurt me are you?.
He sneaks her my pups little chews for treats, which she loves.
Ok rant over, i just needed to get it off my chest, as i don't think i can do anything, but sit and wait until i hear they want to get rid of her as well.
I would have her like a shot, but my jack russell has gone for her throat when OH made a huge mistake of bringing her into his garden with my pup there, my pup being territorial didn't like it one bit.
I thought about an anonymous call to RSPCA, but from what i read on here they wouldn't be interested.

You shhould be able to ring your local dog warden if you are concerned re the animals welfare.Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0

Poor little dog. No,i can't get my head round it either. Why bother if all you are going to do is turf it outside. And the thought of letting her have a litter of puppies, being born into a house full of screaming kids, well the mind boggles. It is a complete fallacy that they need to have a litter before being speyed.
Can only hope that being a Jack Russel sooner or later she will find her own way out, they can dig and jump for England. Then with a bit of luck she will be picked up as a stray and they won't bother looking for her.
You are a lovely person for caring and trying to get this pup away from them but the sad fact is,she will only get another, and another.I really don't know what the answer is.It would have to be denied food water and shelter for the RSPCA to take any action. But you could always ask for advice.I have always found them approachable though i know many don't rate them.0 -
I'd take her like a shot and worry about how she would get on with my pup later, just to get her away from that environment, but that's not wise either, as one of them would be spending time in a crate for safety and i don't think that is good either..
But yes if she got removed, they will most likely get another dog, and i just can't understand why he would get another knowing she doesn't want them....
Good thing tho they have decided to stop breeding... the humans that is0 -
If it wasn't for that family having a cat that is the only difference, I would swear that we lived on the same street! I have a neighbour JUST like yours, even matching the screaming kids.
The family went on holiday a few weeks back when the weather was really hot and left puppy jack russell in the garden with only stagnent water from a paddling pool to drink. The poor thing howled non stop night and day for 2 days. It was then we realised she'd gone (plus the fact that it was very quiet without the kids) and so we called the RSPCA. Sadly they didn't take the dog, but somehow gave it a bowl of water/food over the fence and put a note in her door. Don't worry if she thinks it may be you - people like my neighbours don't care about their kids let alone their animals and shouldn't be allowed to have either if they treat them as an inconvienience. Do what you feel is right.2013: Interflora Vouchers, Christmas Decorations, NNUK goody bag, thermos flask, macwet gloves0 -
oh that is awful pinkpeach, how heartless are people, i suppose the cost of the kennels and kennel cough is a bit much to some, but that is the price you pay when you have animals and still want the holidays...
That reminds me my pup had a card sent by the vets reminding me his jabs are due next month, so at least i got some notice so i can put some money aside for it, although i knew it was due.
I'm not even sure if if Roxy has had her jabs.0 -
Any idea where the JRT pup came from? If they got the lab from a rescue maybe they also got the pup from one? Might be worth calling the rescues in the area to see if they rehomed the pup to them, and if they did they could look into the pups welfare.
I'd second calling the LA dog warden, they won't say who made the complaint but it might be obvious that it was someone local - but the pup needs help.
TY for caring OP xSome days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!

It is really frustrating and sad when people take a pet and yet they wouldn't know how to properly care for it. And end up making the poor pet miserable because of neglect. Or worst they get abused and harm physically.
It takes time and responsibility to have and keep a pet and those people should know that. It might be a good idea to call the rescue and save the poor dog.Mr. Mulla0 -
Part of me wants to respond with "because they're idiots" but that would be too simple an answer.
The problem is that some people just don't understand the fundamental basics about owning a pet of any type. They don't understand that there are actual needs that must be fulfilled for the dog to grow up and mature as a well-rounded living being. By the sounds of it, these people don't even realise that such needs exist in their children, but we'll leave that subject alone.
Clearly, the man wants a pet but what is just as clear is that he has no idea how to look after one. I'm wondering whether he's one of these people who grew up always wanting a dog or cat, maybe because his friends had one, but was denied by his parents and so once he moved out of his parents home he went out and bought the very first pet he could find... with no thought about how he would ever look after it, and now he is stuck in a cycle buying a pet, and either being forced to give it up, or let it give him up, because he is incapable of meeting its needs.
For the record, whichever ninny has told him it is normal for a Jack Russell to have a litter and then be spayed should check their facts. Vets seem to be divided on the optimal time to spay a female but it is scientifically proven that if you spay a female before its first heat cycle then you completely remove its susceptibility to certain fatal illnesses, such as cancer. Some recommend spaying after the first heat cycle, which also has similar health benefits, but lacks the completion. What this man appears to be doing, based on some extremely suspect advice, is planning to breed this dog and for the love of all that is good we sure as hell don't want him to do that.
I'm not saying he is a bad man - from what you have said I think he's fairly naive and perhaps even not too bright. You should make a complaint to the dog warden, RSPCA or any other animal welfare organisation in your area that might listen and make your concerns heard. If you have any idea where the dog came from also make your concerns known to them. Most decent breeders and rescue centres want to ensure that their dogs go to people who know how to look after them and may be able to offer some assistance in getting this dog better care.
But perhaps, another approach, if possible (ie. if he's not some head case) would be to try and talk to him and point out that he's not meeting his pet's basic requirements for a healthy existence. You may want to correct him on his deeply misguided knowledge of when to spay a female dog.
If you can't talk to him, then complain to anybody who will listen. Even make a complaint to the police if necessary as underfeeding a dog is a criminal offence under the Animal Welfare Act and they will almost certainly push the RSPCA into action if needs be.0 -
I'm not entirely sure where Roxy came from, probably from a mate.
Same as Archie the lab, (sorry forgot to mention)
Archie was originally a rescue dog, someone got him for their Autistic disabled son, who loved him to bits and helped the son, but not entirely sure why this man gave the dog up (especially as it was helping the son) but in steps neighbour and takes Archie of his hands.
Both dogs were crated outside, or (luckily) allowed to run around.
I think i might be able to approach the neighbour, even OH has said that when i am not there with my pup he will ask neighbour if he wants Roxy to come into OH's garden where OH can provide company for Roxy, and lots of play and treats she clearly is missing out on.
I'll also tell them that she doesn't need to have a litter first to be spayed, but to be honest i think its more of lets get her to have puppies so we can make some money
The kids are all screamers and well you don't see them very often out in the back garden where decent toys have been provided for them, they tend to keep them upstairs playing in their rooms.
But you can hear them kicking the doors from the crack of dawn wanting to get up, (worries me that these kids are ignored, all little ones who would probably all need the toilet, especially first thing)
So you can imagine the environment this poor pup has, 4 youngsters making constant rackets crying and screaming...
The mother just doesn't cope well, i think she is one of those breeders that loves babies but hates toddlers, and likes the benefit money they get for them.
I only wish that my dog wasn't so jealous so that i could suggest i take her, i just know it's a matter of time before neighbour says to us that his partner wants the dog gone
Also really need to work on pup and other dogs as he is very territorial with me, i got bit when he was a small pup and i feel if affected him, plus i was living in a block of flats at the time, quite poorly, so my pup hasn't had the socialisation he should of done.
But he has calmed down in his barking since i have moved, but still a mouthy so and so when we are out and about.0
