:rotfl: I don't think Caroline Street is what the OP had in mind!
If you look around the Castle Arcade (surprise, surprise opposite the castle) there are plenty of blackboards advertising local fare. I can't remember the names of places off-hand but you'll be spoiled for choiceMortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -

Tony's on Chippy Lane - but only after an international rugby game and a gallon of Brains SA! Years ago, before Caroline Street was made all posh and cars used it, a car owner had parked up and foolishly left a window partly open - it quickly became the largest and fullest chip paper bin in Cardiff!
The Cottage pub on Mary Street does good wholesome homemade food. If you decide to go Indian avoid the Spice Merchant restaurant near the New Theatre, truly vile and very bad service.0 -
For a quick snack , Nice n Hot Roast Beef or Pork Butties is the Hayes Butty Bar ( featured a few times in Torchwood and Dr Who) further down next to Spillers Record Shop is a nice Italian.
The pub opposite the Millennium stadium does a nice mixed grill (not Wetherspoons!) at a reasonable price.
I like the Bospherous at the Bay myself.
There is though plenty of the Nando's etc to choose from.
As for Chippy lane ....... Dr Who surprised me going there ...not a place to visit when sober .... but after a skinful ... chips and chicken curry often appealsThe years starts today ....0 -
avoid the lavabread!!!!!!!!! do try the clark's pies that is something I miss living in Portsmouth, there is also a local bakery in Canton on Cowbridge road that makes their own pies and pasties, always lush, but can't remember the name of the bakery anymore even though I lived there for over 20 years.0

Laverbread is seaweed, it's an aquired taste - like many things normal people find vile. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett
