fancy seeing the Eden project which isn't exactly in the most commutable location.

On Rhyl sea front there was a large hotel where there had obviously been a serious fire, & it had just been left! Gates/fencing put around it, & that was it. No work appeared imminent, & it was overgrown, so had obviously been a while since the fire.
    Could be this one: http://www.denbighshirevisitor.com/news/denbighshire-news/2009/03/11/plans-to-rebuild-rhyl-s-grange-hotel-105722-23110932/

I went to Rhyl about 35 years ago, it was a right bleak hole even then. I remember staying in a caravan park that was fenced off in nasty prison-looking wire ... and the caravans were on sandy-coloured, unkempt grounds... *shudders* ... most god-awful place ever.

Does not compute - why go 3 times, if it's rubbish? :p

Over the years I have travelled a lot. Self employed and trying to save costs have often stayed in holiday resorts, often cheaper. How many rooms have not seen an update in maybe 30 or 40 years , plenty.

B and B in mainly empty famous sea side resorts at say £25 a night. Torquay amazed me. So many and so cheap, less than £25 a night.

Like many things, the market has changed. Have a look on Rightmove to see how multi bedroomed B and Bs sell for, and my guess is that rarely people go there for a week. Maybe a couple of days. http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-23366212.html

Weston Super Mare, so many of the sea front hotels sold off for flats. I have a friend who is an accountant and has many customers from a well known resort in Cornwall. He says that by and large it is only 10 weeks to make any money in. A little at Easter, a few weeks in the top of the season and then the odd visitor for a couple of days.

The most expensive holiday we had was 4 years ago. About £5,000 split 8 ways. A mini coach self drive for a week, a breath taking villa, a maid and gardener during summer school holidays. A great swimming pool.

Shop around and there are some great all in deals, flights, hotel, food and drinks. Some where hot and you need not worry about carrying a lot of spends. It`s all there. Food all day and drinks all day. How would the UK compete?

Rhyl has gone downhill since then.

My local area (S Dorset) is heaving. I do not intend to venture into the town centres or the main beaches now until mid-September at least!

It's like a campervan show around here, just with added seagul !!!!!! as decoration.

They are definately here in abudance, takes me twice as long to get to work and back. Can't wait till the school holidays to end, will take 3x as long then. Put a mum in a car the size of a small bungalow picking their kid up from the private school and a campervan on the same stupid devon road and it's stop start joy all the way.

most people don't go to the british seaside "resorts" because they are horrible. dirty chavy hateful places. dirty nappies on the beach, used needles, loads of asylum seekers and illegals.

Personally I couldn't think of anything worse than a week in most of these places.

Bournemouth is ok. but is steadily going down hill.

also, the costs of a semi decent hotel is laughable in this country.

Mate your talking donkey do do Bournemouth is full on. Town is heaving, beach is packed and if you wan to talk house prices Sandbanks is a nice place
