still coming up with unsupported application - I will try to find the old xp computer, it may be possible to get it working long enough to upload the driver and print this thing off!

How did they manage to upload that Driver before it was released?

Lexmark Vista Driver

Make sure that you disconnect the printer, un-install the old driver via the Device Manager, reboot, install this new driver and then reconnect the printer.

I realise that you have done it before, but I don't know whether you have done it since upgrading to SP2.

Are you on Vista 32bit or 64bit?

Maybe an up-to-date Hijack This log?

Didn't you tell us that you had updated Vista? If you cannot install updates it may point to a hidden infection that has changed your settings.

You need to run ComboFix and have someone analyse the logs or you can back up your important files, run a Factory Restore and run all updates immediately.
You may then find that your current problems will disappear.

If I were you, I would think seriously about the second option, as then you will be sure that you have a clean and fully updated system.
Whatever your system may tell you, Vista SP1 was released on the 18th of March 2008. You don't have it installed. SP2 was released on the 22nd of June 2009. You don't have it installed.

I changed it to update automatically on Friday and it came up with 64 updates to do which it went through. I will do the SP1 and 2 manually and hopefully that will help. If not it will be option number 2

Go to Start > All Programs > Windows Updates, click on Check for Updates and then Install them. Once installed you may have to choose shut down in order to Install the Updates.

Please confirm that the changes have been made. Don't let us assume that you have done them.
