Erm...if this was the case, he would have to have 'fiddled' with them more than two years ago. SP1 was probably released in March 2008!

Updating as I type!! The printer is an X1180 (very old one)

Quite possible - I set things up when I bought it and once its set I don't change anything as I am a long way from being technical
Edited to say that it came up as July last year for the last update

Well he is the only one who would stop it updating, anything that slows things down or means it needs rebooting when he used it did tend to annoy him so I suspect that would have been enough for him to stop it - one reason he is now an ex
