Currys smashed my tv

I brought a 50inch Samsung Plasma TV from Currys in January. A few weeks ago it developed a fault. Phoned currys who sent out a tech man to look it over. He said it was a common fault which could be repaired and duly took the tv away. About a week later they phoned to say the tv was ready to be delivered. Waited in on delivery day but nothing arrived. When I phoned I was told that it had been returned to the depot as they had tried to deliver it to my old address. Booked a second delivery date and again nothing arrived. When I phoned this time Currys said that they did not know where the tv was, however phoned back 24hrs later and we arranged a third delivery date.
TV arrived yesterday:j. SMASHED to bits:mad:
Delivery driver phoned depot who told them to tell me to refuse delivery and they took it away.
Contacted Currys customer services who said I would have to go to the store that I purchased the TV from and arranged a replacement - as they had had my tv for over 28 days I was entitled to a new replacement.
Visited the store twice (first time they said they did not have the authority to replace the TV). On the second visit the manager explained that I would be entitled to an equivalent specification, which he confirmed to be the current 50inch plasma Samsung, However this tv is £849.00 whereas I paid £599.00 in Jan. When we went to the desk another salesman told me I could have an LG. I said I wanted the same TV as they had broken but he said I would have to pay an extra £50.00!
He insisted that brand did not matter - I said it did and that Samsung would not agree with him.
On phoning currys again they reduced the amount to pay to £25.00 however I do not think I should have to pay for a telly that they smashed.
Any comments on what I can do next?

They collected the TV from my new address so I expected them to return it to the new address.

Threaten to contact Samsung and say how they are mis-representing their product.

Show a curry's manager this thread and say you'll make more. Surely they don't want all that bad press?

Check any liability forms you signed. If you haven't signed any ask the delivery men to send you copy of their liability/insurance details pertaining to this situation. Ask Curry's for the same.

Imply that what they have done is criminal damage and you don't want to have to take them to court.

Thank you that sounds like good advice.

Write to them telling them that you handed them a tv for repair, they then smashed your TV beyond repair. Liability to return one working Samsung TV to you is entirely theirs & you will not reward their incompetence. Give them a timescale to do so (eg 7 days) and advise them that you will then hand the matter over to Trading Standards and or the County Courts including an additional sum claimed for your 3 wasted days due to their failed deliveries.

Im fairly sure they are entitled to provide a refund instead of a replacement, so if it will prove far more expensive to them to replace, they may just give you your money back.

Not sure how them smashing the tv would fit into it as it might have some sort of impact, but if the tv had been sent to them beyond repair, they could offer a partial refund, taking into account any use the OP had of the item. Of course its (usually) more economical for them to repair/replace (remember with replacements the price they sell it at is not the price they paid for it).

Dare I say? Because it has been smashed up, it would not be a refund but compensation, which is not necessarily limited to the money originally paid, but should put the OP back in the position they were in before Currys smashed up the TV.

but if the tv had been sent to them beyond repair,

When they collected the tv it did have a minor fault which they repaired. When returned the screen was completely smashed and there was two huge dents in the back.
