Just been hit by £360 bill from Orange ( normally £60 ) daughter got hold of iphone in Germany and started downloading album from itunes. 6 meg a track on average x 10 tracks ....anyway I have just been reading about the EU legislation that came in from start of July. My download was around the 9th July so I believe max charge is £40 ( which is still outragous) anyone tried disputing this yet?
I'd be interested in the Orange "party line" on this.

You would have had to phone Orange and opt into the EU data roaming policy, is isnt just automatically applied, otherwise they'd have people phoning up and moaning that they can't download albums while they're abroad0

I think you might just have to pay this one, just out of interest does this cost include the cost of the albums from itunes or is this just the data/bandwidth cost?
Look into getting an unlimited data package and data roaming blocked from your phone while in Europe to protect yourself in future.
I don't know how old your daughter is but if old enough I would take this out of her allowance/ part-time job wages for as long as it takes!
Even if you maange to get orange to reduce the charges for yourself, still charge her the full amount to teach about responsibility. If she is really young you still need to find a way to teach her not to play with mummys phone!
My little sister used to ring up high bills all the time on my parents phones, and they never punished her for it so she kept doing it, now she is an adult and really irresponsible will money and bills and still going to parents for hand outs non stop.
Saving for a year in Japan.
I need around £10,000. Help me get there! :cool:0 -
I thought the cap was automatic, and you have to opt out if you do not want a limit - Check the orange help & support online.0

Right you had to opt in under rules launched on March 1st, then they launched more rules on July 1st which make the caps mandatory, so who knows, phone Orange and ask them0

I'm not convinced about this. The regulations can be found here - http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/activities/roaming/regulation/index_en.htm - and clearly state that the €50 cap is a default limit.
Personally, I'm of the same mindset as xycom1, if you've used a service then you should pay for it. In this case, however, I wouldn't blame the OP for fighting this, if just on principle more than anything else.If I've helped you please show your appreciation by using the "Thanks" button

It is automatically applied, I checked my account earlier this month and there was an option to disable it.
*Just as a guess* It maybe it gets applied on the next billing cycle, mine was 4th July so it is possible it got applied then. If your bills are usually due late in the month say 28th July, maybe it only got applied to the account then.
It is worth bring the point up with orange though.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -
I also believe you will have to pay for it.Whoever used the phone, you, your daughter, or the bus driver a service was provided and must be paid for.
Just be careful in the future.0 -
LAW: Orange UK, Orange France or any other EU mobile mobile telco cannot over rule EU Regulations and laws (regardless of Orange billing periods) the OP is right to call Orange and verify this EU regulation and ask the bill be recalculated under EU Regulations £40/E55 for the data roaming charge.
It is op out with Orange, not in.If I helped or saved you money - Thank me
If I helped you spend some money - spank me
If I done both - :lipsrseal me:eek:0
