I really think this is the most lovely idea. I can't believe that it is not more widely promoted in the media.
This was a fab idea for a thread!0 -

Does anyone here (maybe ex-services) know if the troops appreciate receiving cheering up/letters of support as opposed to dating/romance type pen-pals?
I used to send letters, postcards and get-well-cards through Anysoldier.com and SOS. I never expected replies (although I did get them) as it was just for cheering up the recipient and I told them that I didn't want to put them under any obligation to write back (heaven knows, they have enough to do over there!). I heard that service personel who didn't have family back home enjoyed getting mail from supporters and that their CO would distribute mail to those who needed it most. So my question is: Is this true, or would someone receiving a letter/card from a complete stranger just think "who's this crazy woman?!"? Is it actually any help to the troops if I send letters as opposed to goodies (I can't afford to send much by way of goodies)?Optima semper libera sunt
