I've had a response to one of the many eblueys I sent.

My OH was somewhat annoyed that my new penpal started his letter 'hi sexy pants' and then went on to talk about a certain film about a woman and a horse....... I managed to talk OH down by explain that he is obviously lacking in female company in Afghanistan so got a little overexcited!

Good job I have a SOH or I'd have been offended :rotfl:

I would really like to send a letter too. Do I need to register to e-bluey? Or can I just send a letter?

You only need to register at e-bluey if you want to send electronic blueys.

    From the e-bluey site:
You write you letter online..... This message is sent to a sever, where it is stored prior to being down-loaded by the Forces Post Office (FPO) in the appropriate operational theatre. It is then printed and enveloped before being passed into the local FPO mail stream. The system is private and personal as the text is only seen by the originator and the recipient, there are two stages of encryption to ensure that the message remains private and personal. The specialist machinery prints and envelops it automatically.

Otherwise you can either go to the Post Office and get some paper blueys to write your letter on, which are free to send.

Or you can just send a normal letter and affix the correct postage. http://www.bfpo.mod.uk/sendaletter.htm#whatitcosts

Obviously a normal letter is going to take longer to get there than an e-bluey, but then there's nothing quiet like getting a hand written letter.

Just a reminder: if any of you are sending packets to troops in operational theatres, postage is free from 10th Nov - 8th Dec. Max weight 2kg.

To thank you to everyone who responded to my plea for letters to a squaddie in Afghanistan:

His boss says "He thought it was a wind up when he finally got some mail. I really do thank you all for doing that".
The lad himself writes, "It is morale boosting to get mail as you know, I have not had a lot since I've been out here. So that has placed a smile on my face."

    So lets keep writing!
    Thank you.

Okay, so this is an Brit site but if there are any Americans out there (besides me)then please read:

Something very cool that Xerox is doing.. If you go to this web site, http://www.letssaythanks.com you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq. You can't pick out who gets the card, but it will go to some member of the armed services. How AMAZING it would be if we could get everyone we know to send one!!! This is a great site. Please send a card. It is FREE and it only takes a second. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the soldiers received a bunch of these? Whether you are for or against the war, our guys and gals over there need to know we are behind them...
