Can positive pregnancy tests be wrong?

Hi all,
I did a Clear Blue pregnancy test on Sunday just gone and came up positive 1-2 weeks pregnant (so 3-4 weeks in the doctors eyes!).
I then did another 2 on Tuesday that both came back negative and another later on that was positive (again 1-2 weeks)?
Is there more chance I am pregnant then not? As far as I am aware it would only show pregnant if it could detect a hormone that you have ONLY when you are pregnant?
Any help/advice would be appreciated as I am very worried as this would mean the world to me and my hubby!!
Thanks
Clare x

Congratulations!:A Certainly looks like you are pregnant. :j
To my knowledge, you can't get a "false" positive, especially 2!! And the Clearblue digital ones are extremely accurate.
Have you made an appointment at you GP?:heart2:Baby boy due 4th March 2011:heart2:0 -
I think you need to go to your GP and have a blood test to check for sure.

What time of day did you do these tests? You have higher levels of (HCT? cant remember the name) in the morning so the test will have a clearer result. If its saying yes then its more than likely a yes. Some people buy a more expensive test to make sure, some go to the docs and do the test there.
Just incase though: stop smoking if you are, stop drinking and dont do any heavy lifting/stretching etc. Better to be safe than sorry!MFW - <£90kAll other debts cleared thanks to the knowledge gained from this wonderful website and its users!0 -
Yep, I'd second the time of day question - I did one first thing and got 2-3 weeks, then later in the evening a different one said 1-2 weeks. So if you are only 1-2 weeks, the hormone might not be strong enough to be detected in the evening but should be with first morning urine.
Good luck, I hope you get the confirmation you want! xMy debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1429.38 | Barclaycard: £4429 1988.12 | Paypal Credit £322.71 574.91 | Monzo Flex £169.03 |

You can get false positives but it is very very rare and more than one is pretty much unheard of, i would lean more towards the idea that the time of day you are testing is effecting the result. Your hormone levels are greatest with your first wee of the day so try to test at that time.
I know its hard but i would try and leave testing again for at least another 3-4 days hormones at 1-2 wks pregnant can be very low and although the clear blue are very good they arent the most sensitive tests on the market. Leaving it a few days will allow your hormone levels to at least double if you are pregnant and you will have the deffinate BIG FAT POSITIVE result :-):jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0 -

Or she could do what everyone else does and take 5 tests a day until the doctor confirms it! Let me know if you go with this option and i'll quickly buy some shares :cool:MFW - <£90kAll other debts cleared thanks to the knowledge gained from this wonderful website and its users!0 -
Bufger you hoary old cynic!!
Seriously, you need to take a test first wee of the day. Fingers crossed for you. Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0 -
Congratulations, you are pregnant.
Initially I only got + with asda's and sainsburies cheapies, not even clearblue picked it up until a week after my first positive.
That because the cheapies can detect 25mmu and the clearblue i had only picked up from 50mmu.
Each brand is different but get a Blood test to get it in writing
Enjoy x0 -
you can get a false negative (not enough hormones) But you cannot, as a rule of thumb, get a false positive -there are certian meds that can give you a positive if you arent preg but these are few and far between, ie certian fertility drugs can sometimes give false positives but if you are any of these meds it would have been explained to you initially.
The clear blue ones are only an indication.. i did 2. 1 that said 2-3 weeks, then it said 1-2 weeks, but it was the time of the day i did them. A positive is a positive congrats!! whoo0
