you're better than that duchess - you don't need to work in a shop...

for anyone that was offended by that - it was a joke
Well, I'd actually be utterly useless :)
I know f3ck all about paint, DIY.... am clumsy to the extreme .... and really don't have the physical strength for the stock moving about, nor the height/reach to safely and easily reach or carry things.

    They'd suss me as a dud :)

This is why I've spent the morning faffing about with simple html/css/php ... I can do copy/paste :)

You dont think 4000 people applying for a part time slightly more than minimum wage job in a shop is in the least bit unusual?

sure is, though I'm not sure counting through gumtree apps is a good idea.

London has the fastest growing unemployment rate in the country so I read the other day.
Yeah, idle f3ck3rs, the lot of 'em
    :)
  • I did a quick tot up the other day for my area.

If I were single, over 25, renting a 1-bed flat, working 30 hours a week and earning £10k, I'd get WTC and some LHA top up ... making my takehome equivalent to earning £15k full-time. That's crazy!

If I were in that position, having worked that out, I'd be looking to reduce my hours to 30 @ £10k down from £15k for 45 hours... and still get the same money.

    It's utterly crazy.... pure madness.

Obviously, if you have a flexible employer you may do this, but maybe it's not that easy to pick and choose the hours you work

Can I just point out that working 16 hours (with associated benefits) still doesn't work out more than working full-time for most people. My SIL works 16 hours a week in a call centre, she gets a very small amount of CT benefit (i.e. £4 a week) and again a small amount of HB (amounts to about £35 a week and we pay London HA rent prices so she still needs to find the other £50 a week) and her WTC/CTC which she is entitled to (you get a 30 hour + element to WTC which obviously she doesn't get). So don't jump on the people that work 16 hours as 'trying to top up benefits'...it still works out the tax payer is paying less as the IS, CTC, HB and CTB would all be more if unemployed. She works 16 hours as she can then do 2 days and my in-laws can have the baby for those 2 days. She wants to go back full-time when the little one is a wee bit older. It's hard when you get chastised for going to work 'as you're abandoning a baby' but if you don't work 'you're a scrounger'...maybe this a happy medium. I know I'm much better off working full-time but I miss my LO so much when I'm there as he's only going to be small once. Don't be too hard on those trying not to be as much of a burden on the taxpayer but circumstances make it hard to go back full-time.
;);) Better to say nothing and look a fool than to speak and remove all doubt :D:D

No, but one can look to change jobs, once armed with the knowledge.

I would be more worried about how many £50k+ Management jobs are out there?

Funnily enough I am seeing lots of contract roles in my field - they pay more than £50k a year - large majority are in banking .....

I'd be wary of his silver tongue Pastures. Especially after what happened to Julieq.
