Please put Phoolgrrrl down for £75 as we are away at start of the month.
  • Help the best laid plans etc...Only spent £44.44 of budget so far on ourselves, which was on Saturday...but my mum had a stroke about a month ago, and her & my Dad are currently staying with my Aunty (She has a down stairs bathroom & bedroom which is perfect) Although my Aunty is a proud women, and won't take a penny over what she spends from dad, I picked up some bits and bobs yesterday which came to £16 yesterday, and my Mum has asked me a couple of times to bring in half a dozen Sausage Rolls from Sayers (They are yummy tho') .

I don't begrudge a single penny of it (thats not the issue), but how do I account for it? Do I put it seperate? Out the GC? I can't plan for it as its all ad-hoc stuff.

    Any suggestions welcome!
Right now I'm having amnesia and deja- vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before

    Hi All

I am new to this and would love to join in as we have just moved into our first house my fiance and I, we had allocated a budget of £250 a month for the shopping (food, cleaning products etc) and have been in the house for 5 weeks and spent a grand total of £339.78 not including take aways.

I would love for us to stay within the £250 budget preferably less including takeaways

Are TAKEAWAYS included in the total spend for this challenge??

I think this will keep me focused on the over all goal of paying our mortgage off in 10 years instead of the 25 but i know that is a different forum so i wont go into it on here.

    Sorry for going on

    Good luck everyone

It's your challange, so include what you want. People include different things. For some it is strictly a food budget (not takeaways) Others include takeaways, meals out, toiletries, pet food etc. I include pretty much everything I buy in a supermarket (or places like Wilkos if things like bin bags etc) - I have to account for these things somewhere and I have neither the time nor the inclination to have separate budgets when I can just lump it as one. I don't include meals out - they come under entertainment/ special occasions. I do include ad hoc food like sausage rolls bought in town, a packet of sweets with petrol, a cup of tea in town, that kind of thing - because I could/ shoudl be organised enough to take stuff with me to not do that kind of thing.

Find a balance that works for you :)

    Good luck!

    Brilliant!

Well, it's a 5 week month for August so that's 5 x £40 = £200 for me (already picked up by MrsM, ta), and my first week's shopping came to £39.94, giving me 6p in the savings jar. This was quite extravagent for me as I'd just come back from 2 weeks away and needed to re-stock the cupboards, so I'm hoping it'll go down for the rest of the month.
