Got an unconditional but want to change uni - any advice?

how apt that you should post this now - got my results today - B, C and F. F in the subject I wanted to study. I have had a nightmare night tonight, in fact all day, watching friends post the fact that they've gotten 4 As, etc. There is no way I can now go back to the college I was studying at to do my degree, I'm 99% certain the unconditional will be rescinded tomorrow once they see my grades, so I am trying to work through other options.
I studied obsessively, history was the one higher I wasn't stressed about, it was a breeze....... you live and learn! Maybe I don't have a brain after all!
Isn't an unconditional offer unconditional, so shouldn't be rescinded based on your grades? Either way, though, you should be very cautious about studying somewhere that you don't think is any good.
There should still be options for you with those grades - and do you have other qualifications and experience too? You may want to retake the F or consider the subject you're wanting to study, but make sure you do consider your options.
Anyway, try not to be too depressed. It might be you had a crap exam or two or misunderstood aspects of the course, but in the scheme of things that's certainly not the worst thing in the world (and you can't do anything about the past now). The B and C you got show that you can study, even if you had problems with one of the highers.0 -

I thought unconditional offers meant they weren't dependant on your results?
Unless it's different for mature students?
You DO have a brain and shouldn't give up. It takes balls making big changes and the person who said you didn't have a brain was a fool!
Hope it's sorted out soon.0 -
unconditional does mean that my uni entry isn't dependent on my results, but at the moment i feel very stupid and insecure I guess, I've had a really really crap week, and this is just the final straw.
it's a case i think of losing face - can I go back to the college in September and go ahead with my degree knowing that I failed my highers? Just spoken to a friend and she said to go for it, but I'm so ashamed at myself more than anything.0 -

It is perfectly possible to be too knowledgeable to do well at GCSE or A level. If you've already been studying at degree level, as you have, you won't be answering the questions in the simple "tick box" way that you need to do to garner marks at this level.
The only thing stupid about you, Alyth, is you can't let go of the idea of going to this stupid, poxy college that has treated you so badly rather than go to a decent university!
Sorry to be bracing - you know I mean well.0 -
Alyth, go for it! What have you got to lose?
Your college is rubbish and you know it, you are more than capable to go to uni!
Accept that offer and get yourself to uni..

That is so true, and it has happened to me. I failed a prelim exam that was at a level far, far below what I was used to. I then got the highest mark in the class for the level I was sitting. I have no idea why the teacher thought it was a good idea for us all to sit all three levels of the exam.
Alyth, really, you need to sit down and think about this. Don't just go to the college (which you hate) just because you can. There are always other options.0 -
I don't know exactly where you studied (well, I live in the area and think I might
), but can you put in an appeal for your F? Assuming you submitted all the relevant portfolio stuff and passed the prelim you should at least get a pass. DS had to appeal a higher last year and it was straightforward, but that was at school don't know about your situation.

MrsB I didn't sit the prelim so I can't appeal. However, every single person I know that sat the exam for an F - it's really strange, that includes people in my class and some of the kids I used to work with who sat the exam at different schools.
I've spent two days talking through options with people, both friends and at work, and I now have a plan of action :j. I'm off on holiday next week and can't wait to get away from it all and then come back refreshed and ready to start being a real grown up student!0 -

Oh, that's a shame about not sitting a prelim, but it sounds good that you have a Plan. Good luck with your studies - is it nosey to ask what you are hoping to study?
