Got an unconditional but want to change uni - any advice?

Ive caught a few of your posts Alyth about this college.
My personal feeling if I were in your shoes would be to not carry on with this college at all. You dont like it there, there are clearly trust issues. Personally since the marketisation ( is that a word?) of education the suggestion is you can choose somewhere else? I wouldnt pay a company I didnt like so taking out a 3 year contract to pay with a company/college I didnt like would be right far down o nthe list of things I might consider doing.
Do you rent your home? If so would you consider taking a year out and moving to somewhere much more professional if the original uni doesn't have spaces this year? Once your grades are in, unconditional offers will be much more forthcoming I expect?
I am no expert but If I hated an organisation as much as you seem to a wide berth would be duly dished out. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I've just gone out for a long walk and had a bit of inspiration.
My preferred uni also has degrees that start in February....so just checked and the degree I want to do then starts in Feb...... so that's a possibility. Taking another six months off isn't really a problem.
One question I wonder if someone can answer - if I do my first 4 months or so at the college, can I transfer to the uni (or whatever the term is)?
I'm absolutely concerned about the teaching at the college, perhaps because I'm a more mature student, I tend to notice the lack of professionalism more - I worked in law in London for years so am used to formal environments, and whilst I know colleges and uni aren't formal environments, there are a few things that have worried me for a while with regards to the teaching - I also studied OU for two years before going to college.
I really appreciate your replies, they have helped me so much - and I have managed to eat something!0 -
You would really need to ask the university if they would accept a transfer. I have never heard of mid-year transfers though, and it would depend on numbers of places and if the previous work matches with that of the university.
Although by the sounds of it, I think you would probably be better staying clear of the college and trying for a fresh start elsewhere.0 -

my guess would be no, although ONW is likely to know more.
Im guessing that if you started the course, youd have to pay fees for the full year, after all its not like they can get someone to fill your chair part way through the year?
Im only guessing though ! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

okay I am now so distressed by all this I've just been really badly sick
Lynz we don't pay tuition fees up here, they're paid for you - but I see what you are getting at, my fees will be paid for the year by the government.
My problem is that because I've failed the access course overall, but should pass my highers, I don't know whether that will be a deterrent in gaining a place at the uni starting in Feb.
I'll email them tonight and see what response I get. Thanks again.0 -

You don't want to 'waste' some of your fee entitlement though.
If your Highers are at the grades the university ask for then they may well make an offer. You don't really need to declare any failed grades as far as I know.0 -

Don't forget your OU courses - they would have been acceptable for entry without the Highers or Access.0 -

how apt that you should post this now - got my results today - B, C and F. F in the subject I wanted to study. I have had a nightmare night tonight, in fact all day, watching friends post the fact that they've gotten 4 As, etc. There is no way I can now go back to the college I was studying at to do my degree, I'm 99% certain the unconditional will be rescinded tomorrow once they see my grades, so I am trying to work through other options.
I studied obsessively, history was the one higher I wasn't stressed about, it was a breeze....... you live and learn! Maybe I don't have a brain after all!0
