Hi,

Was told by a customer assistant in store last week and read on an O2 forum that O2 might start selling blackberrys on PAYG - has anyone else heard anything similar?

  • I was told this by a manager when I called o2 last week. He said it would be the end of July and that they had no price info etc. as yet. They have said they will contact me when the blackberry becomes available on PAYG.

Thanks. Os so that's quite soon. I assume this means you can buy the handsets themselves on PAYG. If the simplicity prices are anything to go by, it'll be quite expensive, oh well.

Lots of people have been told different release dates from O2 (from posts on their blackberry forum) - the 1st, the 2nd and the 9th! ...

    Blimey, this takes me back.

I remember asking O2 about PAYG Blackberry in Feb 2009 and was told that a summer release was expected (thats summer 2009).

There's going to be a blackberry "text and web" pay and go tariff, with 500mb internet plus blackberry e-mail, and 500 texts with a £15 top up, or unlimited texts with a £30 top up.

I think it should already be available.

I'm already on Simplicity so I'm more interested in what the handset prices will be.

Otherwise I'm going to have to take a gamble and buy from remobile.co.uk which have some pretty mixed reviews on here!!

I'd wait if I were you - at least until mid-August. I've never heard of remobile, not sure how reputable they are. Might even be better off on eBay.

It's not supposed to be live for another 3 minutes but they're already on the site http://www.o2.co.uk/explore/tariffs/paygo I'm sure the handsets will be up there soon.

The phones are up on the site now. Only the pearl 3G (too expensive for me) and 8520 available to buy on PAYG it seems.

    The 8520 is £150.

But I was looking at the 8900 which has a better camera and also GPS. Its not there though. Remobile sell refurbished handsets with 24 month warranty and the 8900 is £180 from there, and that's the max I'd be looking to spend.

Would be risky buying from them though, not sure which option to take.

You could perhaps consider getting a second hand BlackBerry and getting it unlocked rather than waiting for O2 to officially release a PAYG product.

The best thing about second hand is that it will be cheaper and you could just get a 30 days notice BlackBerry sim only contract which will be better value than a pricey PAYG tariff.
