Hi,
I'm new to the android/touch screen phone so trying to plod my way through the user manual but was wondering if there are any current users out there who could help with the following...
1. How do I transfer all my contacts/calendar entries from my old Nokia? It looks like the Galaxy has synched with Facebook/Gmail and I now have anyone who I've ever emailed on my phone...waaaay too much. Would be happy to keep just my old contacts as they were but they're stored on my old phone (which currently has a broken screen).
2. I'm assuming I should ensure I save all contacts to my SIM card only but it looks like I can only add 1 telephone number this way. Saving to the phone allows much more options?
3. Can I disable the synching with Facebook/Gmail etc and still see Facebook status updates?
4. How do I xfer my iTunes onto my phone? Would like to have all my music on my phone - something I've never done before.
Will probably have a lot more dumb questions but that's all I can think of right now - was always a concern that this phone would be
oh...another question - can I create a shortcut to FB on my main screen?

see my answers in red below. i have the desire but android phones will be similar so synching will have similar procedures generally.MrsJackBauer wrote: »Hi,

see if this link helps, it is for the desire but should still give an idea how to cloud synch. once you have done the cloud synch then you can update any android phone or other phone you ever buy in the future more easily! http://myhtcdesire.com/tutorials/how-to-transfer-contacts-from-a-nokia-symbian-phone-to-htc-desire
also see http://myhtcdesire.com/tutorials/how-to-transfer-contacts-from-sony-ericsson-phones-to-the-htc-desire
also see http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=147951
these links should help with synching. there are other methods but these would be easiest i guess.
2. I'm assuming I should ensure I save all contacts to my SIM card only but it looks like I can only add 1 telephone number this way. Saving to the phone allows much more options?
see above links then you can get all numbers instead of one number

yes you can disable it. and see on web browser when needed. you could also set the gmail updates to manual for non peak times. we can do that on the desire and i guess you can do that on the galaxy s as well. but that will mean you pull email rather than use the stock android pushemail. pushemail uses less data and battery.
4. How do I xfer my iTunes onto my phone? Would like to have all my music on my phone - something I've never done before.
yes you can have upto 48gb of music or what ever you want on the samsung galaxy s. 16gb of internal memory plus if you add 32gb card then you will have in total 48gb of space for your music collection enough to last you a long long time! you can transfer by using multiple methods but easiest option would be using doubletwist player app got free from the market place. there are many other good players for free as well. you can synch itunes and anyother library that you have with doubletwist.
see if this link helps http://myhtcdesire.com/tutorials/how-to-sync-music-and-videos-between-htc-desire-and-computer-3

you should have an app on your phone for that. or you can add apps available from the market for free. and you can add widgets on the homescreen they are much better than shortcuts. or if you want you can add a shortcut to the program if you wish. see what suits you best. see your manual or see the above website mentioned in the link above which has guides for doing this on the htc desire and the procedure will be very similar on your phone too since it is an android phone
hope this helps. best of luck.
ps: when you find a similar good website/blog for the samsung galaxy s please post the link here too so that others can benefit too.bubblesmoney :hello:0 -
Hi,
Thanks for all your links - I think the fact that my old phone is broke (can't view the screen) means I can't xfer my contacts using the tools you've suggested
If I find any useful links for the Galaxy S I will def post on here...
If anyone else uses the Galaxy S and has overcome any issues, would love to hear about them.
One issue I've discovered (nothing major) is not being able to save calendar entries on a fortnightly basis...basic but useful if you do shifts :-/0 -
