Can't remember my school qualifications!

I am dumb, I know, but I have managed to loose all my old cv's and qualifications certificates and the cv I have now simply lists them as 8 O levels and 2 Highers.

I have a degree and other qualifications, but this job I'm applying for has an online form and asks for subjects and grades for school quals too

My Highers I remember, but the O levels are a bit hazy so I was hoping someone here was maybe a teacher in the mid eighties so can remember when it all changed...

You see I remember we were the last year to get the old style exams (1987 I think) in Scotland in my 4th year, but O levels in my 5th and 6th year must've been in the new system... I think. The main difference as far as this form in concerned was the marking system they use either a letter or a number

I'm not optimistic about my chances for this job, but I'd like to give it a go anyway! So, anyone got a better clue than me?

Just put that you passed 8 O' levels and then give details on the more recent qualifications.

Very few employers will even check what you got for O levels if you have better grades than that in later life
The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

Absolutely. I never put my grades on a CV, just the subjects i took and no one has ever questioned it. Plus, as a side note, my attitude is that someones job application shouldnt be based on something they did 13 years (in my case) ago when they were 15-16 yeas old!

I've had the same problem, I can't remember all the grades exactly so i've just guessed them for my cv. I'm 42 though so i'm fairly certain these won't be followed up and that my job experience since then is what i'll be judged on.

    Hi Honeydukes

Not sure if this will help or not but I sat my 4th year exams in 1991 and most of them were Standard Grades but a few were still O Grades. I'm pretty sure we were the last year of O Grades but I could be wrong. The subject I sat which were O Grades were Biology and Geography, the rest (English, Maths, French, Music and Home Economics) were SG's.

    HTH

    ETA: We done Highers in 5th & 6th year (92 & 93)

Stew68 - have you a degree or anything - I don't put my O levels on my CV - just my degree - I am the same age as you ...

If the form's asking for it and you don't know, just stick "A" in....what's the worst that can happen ;)

Nah, I hated school. I got out of there as soon as I could. I do regret it sometimes though.

'O' levels were graded A-E, there was also F and U if you did really badly. Only C and above count as a pass. There was no A* or similar.

I have a degree but was asked about my school grades at an interview when I was 35. Some employers just have 'procedures' they love to follow.

If these were Scottish exams then the SQA has records going back decades, you can get either a replacement certificate or a statement of results. Apply here.

For any other exams google the exam body, they all offer a similar service.
