Im (hopefully!) going to be exchanging contracts on my first home soon.
My Dad has said to me I should ask the seller if it would be ok for us to pop round after contracts are exchanged, just for him to show me how the heating/hot water system works. Also he's leaving the kitchen appliances so how they work if he hasnt got the manuals.
Has anyone heard of people doing this before or does it seem strange?

Sensible, reasonable and fairly common.
You might also measure for curtains, the spaces for any white goods that are not being left, that you need to order, etc etc...0 -
I've not been through the process but doesn't seem too weird to me.0

Sounds reasonable to me.
When I bought my current house, I arranged to go around a couple of times once the process was nearing exchange. Once with a builder to get a quote for work we needed doing quickly and the other to measure up for curtains/ask which ones were being left and have a chat about how things work.'Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain'0 -

As a seller I would expect the buyer to do this. You are spending hundreds of thousands of pounds based on 1 or 2 brief viewings plus a surveyors report so I think it's reasonable to visit again.

We accepted an offer on our house 5 weeks ago and all seems to be going through. But we have never met the buyers, know nothing about them, they were shown around twice in our absence.
I keep thinking they must want to come around again, to meet us, to measure up etc. No sign of this happening.
I would always ask to go and have a chat.0 -
Sounds reasonable to me.
(If you're not technical then take your dad or write down the model numbers of the boiler and appliances so you can research the manuals)0 -
Thanks everyone, I will definately ask to pop round0
