Oh great, so even if I try and switch away I could end up getting messed about? Although if I go to say First Direct (have been toying with the idea for a while now) and use their switching service surely it is down to FD if anything goes wrong, they have to sort out any issues with missed payments and so on? I can see that as a business you have to be much more careful though Paul.

The issues I've had is simply unreliable transfers, nothing as serious as what I've read about, but I enjoyed the convenience of being able to move money about at will with A&L faster payments - not haveing to send money in 3/4 different lots in the hope that one of them makes it there that day!

    xx

When people have tried switching away from Santander, one reported issue is that Santander don't release the direct debit info. It's probably better to do it manually with each company that has a DD with you.
My own main issue with them is that, without warning, they stopped showing the reference numbers for incoming BACS payments into my business account. Effectively this could have left me not knowing which customers had paid and which hadn't. If I had had a large number paying that way, it could have caused me serious problems. As it was, after a year trying to find out what was going on, I got so frustrated I started shouting and swearing down the phone at them. We've all got our limits and they found mine.

Don't blame you Paul... what a pain. Feel like I've been forced into something that I didn't sign up for, I've been perfectly happy with A&L for all those years. Grrr
