I had a parcel left in my recycling bin on Tuesday.
While I can see why they did it, I was a bit miffed, especially considering tuesday is bin collection day.
Thankfully they must've delivered the item AFTER the bins had gone!

I called to complain and I had a nightmare trying to find a number for them, eventually got through to their warehouse where I spoke to a guy who sounded like he heard this sort of thing a lot...anyway I got an apology but I also complained to Amazon and told them I wouldn't use them again if they continued to send things via HDN. Although I have got a few things from them since, but now I either get them sent to work or I use the express delivery if it's a present, which annoys me that I have to pay more to basically guarantee I get my parcel.

This is what I do not understand - why are you calling HDN? If they haven't left a card, then your contract is with Amazon - so you should have rung Amazon - let them deal with it.

    • Despite all the stories about them leaving things in garages etc, they still require as much proof as you need to be able to open a bank account in order to collect the parcel you've flippin well bought.
    • Poor website design. When you go on to rearrange delivery, there's a link to collect which takes you to the details for the depot. What neither of us realised, because some genius put it so far down the page it doesn't show on a normal screen without scrolling, is there's a button you're supposed to click to warn them you're coming to collect it! The woman got right stroppy with us about it, apparently we were stupid for not knowing about it. Not that I've ever had to tell any of the other couriers I'm collecting, I just turn up with my card.
    • As part of her throwing a strop at us, (and trying to tell us we'd have to come back next week because we hadn't clicked that magic button) she had the nerve to tell us that she may not find our parcel 'because it's buried in a big pile somewhere, and the warehouse is too large for me to go searching for it'... so what she's saying is HDN has no tracking or stock system in their warehouse and just throw things in a corner?!? Fills you with confidence!

    Hi,

The reason they want you to tell them that you are picking up is because it will be then put in a room waiting collection, whereas if it is going to be re-delivered (normally couriers will attempt 3 deliveries) it will go into a different process and get sorted with the normal inbound traffic - a typical depot can get up to 10,000 items a day - so it may be difficult to find straight away.

Things will not be thrown in a corner - most likely in a cage.

I suspect that this is because the company you bought from, stated that they could leave in a safe place & that would be considered a safe place - they should have left a card for you ??

Actually I would be surprised if any courier / royal mail had much of a scanning system once in the depot - they most like scan the item into the depot, then out for delivery (which is most likely when they place the item on the van). About the only extra tracking they might have is when it is a high value item - such as a mobile phone, where they will place it in a secure cage - but I suspect that will be a manual process.

  • Thornton's lost our Christmas order a couple of years back through using this company. We received our parcel 5 days after they had received it with half of it missing, the box had been opened.

Thornton's were actually very good and got the missing order to us the following day via Royal Mail. Why couldn't they have used them in the first place?
Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p
It is not illegal to open another persons mail unless you intend to commit fraud - this is frequently incorrectly posted:)
    I live in my head - I find it's safer there:p

My wife waited in last friday for a parcel from Amazon using HDN to deliver . I went to work at 1pm to fall over the parcel leaning against the door no card pushed threw and no knock on door or door bell rung . i have no idea how long it had been there box was wet as it was raining all morning but inside box dry i cant see me using Amazon anymore. I dont consider leaning against the front door in the rain a safe place anyone walking past would have seen it .

I too no longer buy from Amazon.

HDNL Drivers just seem incapable of delivering parcels and I end up getting a refund. It amazes me that the drivers have sufficient IQ to pass a driving test because they seem incapable of following instuctions, or as others have said, of ringing a door bell! Amazon customer service have always been brilliant but I just want the goods delivered.

No other courier has ever had a problem delivering goods to me or leaving a card

I don't understand how HDNL get so many big company conttats when there are so many disgruntled customers out there. I've had 3 mis dealings with them (and a couple that suprisingly went ok).

1st) Parcel delivered on a very wet day and was just dumped over my back gate (it was books in a cardboard box) and no card left.

2nd) Ordered a new hosepipe from Amazon, double checked the address over the phone with Amazon as it is a new build house and some companies had, had problems locating us. All was ok, HDNL couldn't find our postcode on the system, so changed the address to what THEY thought it should be and tried to deliver it to an address 2 towns away (same number, road and county but wrong postcode), parcel was refused so was sent back to Amazon, so Amazon had to send us out another one. HDNL then put this one on the wrong truck and it ended up the wrong end of the country! Third time lucky it arrived.Thought i was saving a bit of cash ordereing fronm Amazon but i might aswell have gone to the shops and bought one after waiting 2 weeks for this to be delivered.

3rd) Placed an order with Marks and Spencer on the 23rd of July this year, was dispatched on the 24th, didn't get a tracking number from M&S as it was standard delivery. As it said 3-5 days for delivery i rang them on Friday (30th) as the parcel hadn't arrived. From their records HDNL had attempted delivery at 7.45pm on the 26th and left a card. I know full well i was in at that time as i would have been getting my son ready for bed(i rarely go out after 7pm as its his bed time). We gave HDNL a call and they confirmed they'd tried to deliver on the Monday and said it would be out for redelivery on the Saturday (31st) before 3pm, got to 1pm on the Saturday and no parcel arrived, tried phoning and low and behold the close at 1pm on a Saturday!
Rang them first thing this morning and apparently my parcel is out for delivery today but i really don't hold out much hope.
If i'd have known M&S was using HDNL i would have thought twice about ordering from them, as if this parcel has gone missing, i can't reorder as most of it was sale stock which is now out of stock...which is a disappointment as it was stuff for my son's birthday.

Simple they are extremely cheap ive heard as low as 50p per parcel is what Amazon are paying.

No problem with HDNL around here the drivers are excellent, bear in mind that they do deliver a hell of alot or parcels i can assume its quite stressful as they have took so many accounts with many companys maybe thats why the drivers take shortcuts
