Virgin End of Contract - moving to GiffGaff

I have 1 month left on my virgin mobile contract.
It is only £8.50 per month for 100 minutes and 100 txt.
I had a call from their "early upgrades" 2 months ago but didnt taken them up on their offer to reduce this to £6 [maybe £6.50] for 12 months.

I called yesterday, to see if they could offer me anything, but all they could offer was whatever was on the web site.

I called to give my 30 days notice to cancel today, and also got my PAC code.

I think I should have requested my PAC later, as it is only valid for 30 days.

I am going to go onto the giffgaff sim, and port my number there. I am hoping to take advantage of the sale prices with giff gaff.

my contract finishes 27th august. When should I activate and request my PAC to be ported over in order to take use up the most of my existing contract.

is this clear enough - or too long winded. lol. sorry.

Also can i buy good bags before I have activated a giff gaff sim.
I have a GiffGaff sim with £5 in the post.

Thanks.:money:

I would use the PAC in the last week before it expires.

It usually takes 2 working days to port a number between networks, but I'd give it a couple of days longer just in case of any problems

You can't buy the goodybags until after activation on giffgaff, but you can use your topup credit to buy the goodybag at a later date. If you buy befre end of August you can take advantage of their half price sale and buy two.

As mentioned, if you are not ready to port until 27th August then I would suggest ordering your GiffGaff sim now, ready to be activated. Request your PAC 30 days prior to the 27th August. Around the 22th August, activate the GiffGaff sim, top up £10, port number (2 working days), then after successful port buy 2 lots of goodybags to run for the next 2 months. You should be ready to go by the 25th, leaving a couple of days of unused time on your old contract.

If you request a PAC code and use it before your next billing date, you may not be charged for any days over your final contract date. i.e. request PAC 5th August, 30 days notice should run until 5th Sept, but if you use before 27th they won't charge you for the days running up to the 5th. I've had this with Three where they will only bill you up to the date you port your number across, but the only difference is, I was outside the minimum term period.

    Hope that helps.

Yes, you just request your PAC from them. I think there is a legal requirement on all networks to allow you to take your number

Thinking you're one confused cookie lol.
The reason to request your PAC is to move your number, that's what the PAC does.

i know that i need my PAC to take my number to my network.
I just want to take it FROM my existing contract - then TO giffgaff, then eventually when the right deal comes along, i want to be able to take my number with me FROM giffgaff.

    i hope that is clear.
Maybe Im going the long way round

    Your be fine.

Pac stands for PORT AUTHORISATION CODE. Its the ability to take your number from one provider to the another. All networks are aware of this. but be careful not to get mixed up with the PUK code.(sound very similar). they sometimes try and fob you off with this instead.

remember, your port will happen at any point of the day thats chosen. theres no particular time so not point asking. just make sure everything important on your phone is backed up and saved to the phone or memory card or your lose it!

i used to work at Virgin until last december. so i remember quite a bit about there processes.
