I tried to get paraffin for storm lamps earlier this year when the snow was threatening power cuts. I think I was charged something like £4.95 at a filling station for a 5 Liter container. I had a price of a couple of quid in my mind and another customer and I both baulked when we were told the price.
I'm not sure if this would work. The likes of B&Q are selling off their citronella oil at the moment but it might stink your house out.
Remember that parafin heaters produce a lot of water vapour and the obvious potential danger if they are knocked over.0
