Mobile Roaming Data

Hello all. Inspite of costs reducing the charges for using data abroad are still a total rip off! What is the most cost effective way to use you smart phone abroad for data (emails, web etc) please?

If your handset supports it, buy a SIM locally.

I'd say go with a local sim as roaming is a rip off! I just don't see why roamed data needs to cost 100x-300x the cost of non roamed data. At what stage is this massive extra cost incurred by the networks? You are using the same mobile bandwidth as the locals so it must be the non-mobile section of the network that costs so much.

When buying a new handset ALWAYS ask about their unlocking policy. Some networks such as orange will not unlock for the first 3 months, even if you offer to pay an unlocking fee which is an outrage!

What network are you on? I'm on T-mobile and when I was away in Europe I paid £10 for 50mb of usage which you would usually pay £150 for.
