Taxing Car problems!

Hi all,
Right - well my tax runs out at the weekend. I renewed my insurance on the 14th July but so far when I try to do my tax online it tells me it can't find my insurance details.

Therefore, unless this updates before the weekend I'm going to have to go to the PO - here's where the fun starts.
I've lost my V5 - can I tax my car at the same time as I apply for a new V5? Or will I have to wait weeks for that to come through which means I won't be able to drive my car after Saturday?

My V5 was also in my maiden name at my parents address - I've just got married & my new insurance (valid from Saturdaya onwards) is in my married name and at my new address (I couldn't find the V5 to update my address then I forgot). Should I apply for a new V5 as it was (old name & old address) to make things simple or should I change my details as I apply for it? I know either way it'll cost me £25 :o

Thanks!

Go in and ask the post office NOW, the longer you leave it the longer you might not have tax for your car.;)

It sometimes takes a couple of days to show up on the database, you should be pressing the insurance company on this as you will show up as uninsured if stopped. Also if you bought online and they have emailed you a copy of your certificate, print it out and use that to tax your car.
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

There is provision to tax a car without the V5, it's just a different form, can't recall the No tho'. ;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Skint-Catt - The new insurance will not update on the database until after it comes into force so if insurance is not due til July 31st then it will update after then. Normally it takes up to 72 hours to update.

Do you have the tax reminder V11 form? If so you can tax at PO will that PLUS your insurance and MOT certificates. Take your marriage certificate too to show that you are same person but haven't yet updated V5 with new details. Obviously this option only works if you have insurance certificate.

If you don't have your V11 tax reminder then you can still tax but you will need to do this at a DVLA Office only (not a PO). You will also need to apply for a new V5 at same time using form V62. Also take marriage cert and proof of new address. They can tax over counter for you or via post.

If you tax at PO using V11 reminder then you will still need to apply for new V5 on V62 form. Send V62 with £25 fee, plus photocopy of marriage cert and letter explaining you are same person just name/address change to DVLA Swansea.

Another sneaky alternative if all else is not an option is to order new V5 from DVLA via telephone, pay £25 fee over phone and it will arrive at your parents address in 3-5 working days. When it arrives you will need to use that to tax it at PO and fill out change of details for it to be send off. But rememeber you will need to confirm your maiden name/parents address when ordering!

I will get to the PO at lunchtime to ask but I need to find one near work that doesn't shut for lunch!

I have chased the insurance company for it but they say it's all updated - that's why I bought it at the beginning of the month as my insurance & tax are always due together. I have my policy docs and insurance cert just no V5.

    Cyclonebri1 - thanks - that's what I'm trying to find out!

Flutterby - my tax & insurance are always due on the same date & I've always taxed online before as it's been able to find my new insurance, unless they've changed the system for this year. Even if I phoned to order a V5 now I may not get it for Saturday morning which means I can't tax my car before it runs out :(

Thanks for all your replies though! I just need to find the way that cyclonebie1 suggested!

i had issues recently with changing taxation class for a car, i went to my local dvla office (mine is in borehamwood) who sorted everything out for me there and then while i waited, my advice is to find your local dvla office and go visit with whatever documentation you have to hand

Well I've just taken a closer look at my Reminder Form and it doesn't say I need my V5! It just says to take the reminder with my MOT and car insurance to the PO! Will give it a go - have my marriage cert with me too in case of problems.

    Will let you know later!

You should be OK with Tax Reminder, MOT, Valid Insurance and of course the correct fee,

    Good Luck..;)

Yeah the fee :(;) - shame they no longer take credit cards at the PO - I don't get paid until next month!
