Sky took £38 extra from DD

Hello all, I am really angry, I have just checked my Bank statement, online, and found out Sky have taken extra money from my account. I called Sky and unfortunately spoke to a guy with a very bad attitude, which made me even more angry. He said I should have received a letter(which I didn't) saying if a phone line wasn't connected to one of the boxes(I have 2) they'd charge me the full amount for one of the boxes- I didn't even know one box is £97 but 2 are £58?? So he said because I had 2 boxes I paid less, and, because the boxes were not connected to a phone line, I was charged for one only, at £97, instead of £58 for two!? Anyway, I said I never had a phone line connected to the boxes, in all the years I've had Sky. The guy then said he didn't care, that's how it was. I asked to speak to a manager and he replied: "NO, I am saying everything you need to know". I then said how do I get a refund for the money they'd taken, he said I wouldn't. I then passed the phone to my husband because I couldn't even speak any more. The guy was equally rude to my husband, and he put the phone down. Now, can Sky do this, please? It doesn't make sense to me, and I feel powerless to do anything.

Do a Google for Direct Debit Gaurantee
Have a read, then contact your bank and instruct [note not "ask"] them to refund the extra £38 to your account immediately under the DDG
They will do this, then you have the £38 and not Sky
No doubt this will upset Sky, so be preapred to go round in circles for a whileWhen an eel bites your bum, that's a Moray0 -
:T:T:TThank you ever so much! My husband just spoke to the Bank and they will actually refund the whole amount! We also cancelled the DD. We didn't have DD for Sky for many years, and only did so, about 6 months ago, because we were told by Sky they'd cancel our account(but first they took 3 months payment in advance, by CC) if we didn't pay by DD. So we had to do it- or did we? I am not sure I believe anything Sky says anymore.
Now we'll wait for Sky to contact us, as we've got our money back.
Thanks again:j0 -
Sky did this with me this month! they wrote to me saying they was taking £88 but took £140! i cancelled the direct debit, after phoning them saying they had wrote to me, when they never did! i paid £88 off what i owed online and re-set up the direct debit for the remainder for the next month, it would have been ok if they had told me it was going out, but they left me with not enough for other direct debits, they didnt even seem bothered when i rang :@Is a Bipolar bear

Watch out now for the CC as Sky have may the card number, and getting disputed money back from a CC is not so easy, it needs Sky to tell CC to refund, you cannot initiate it
Which is why never agree to continous authority on a CC
Sky may well initiate another DD, this of course will not be authorised by you, but your bank may just do it and pay it anyway, banks are like that
Hence my message about going in circles for a while, you will need to be vigilant for a bitWhen an eel bites your bum, that's a Moray0 -

Im afraid Sky are only going to ask for the money the bank have taken back. I assume you have multiroom is this correct?
It is a condition of multiroom that to get the mirror sub on the 2nd box for £10 it needs to be connected to the same phone line as the 1st box otherwise how do they know the 2nd reduced sub box isnt down the road at your mates house?? If you dont they will charge full price subscription for the second box and you should have got a warning it wasnt before they took the full price. However you must connect both boxes to the phone line otherwise they will continue to collect 2 subscriptions from you.0 -
Sky are the only company i have DD that appear to change the date when they take money from my account, it varies and can cause problems at times. Has resulted in one bank charge so far0
