Not far away? It's about 3-4 hours by public transport!
My advice is simply do Krakow and Wroclaw. If you really want, head down to Zakopane for a day from Krakow, it's not far.
can't be as far, it took as an hour in April!!! It's only 70km from Wroclaw.0 -

I agree, you have such a short amount of time there would be no point visiting Warsaw or Katowice even though they both have their merits! Zakopane is worth making the effort for even if it is just for the day.0 -
Thanks to all for the information. I have decided on the advice above just to do Krakow and Wroclaw, thanks also for the tip about podgorze I havent benn there yet I presume this is where Schindlers factory is and was going to check it out as I believe a new museum has opened there.
Polishbigspender you are obviously knowledgable about Krakow and indeed the rest of Poland and seen a couple of posts previously from you. Have you(or anyone else) any tips for good traditional restaurants preferably not on the main square, not because of the cost but wanted something a little quieter and less commercialised planning to eat once in the old town and once in Kazimiez. Leave in two days!! Thanks all once again.0 -
I am going to Wroclaw for 3 days in Oct and would also be interested in any tips. I went to Krakow last year and loved it (except for some very early snow which rather blighted some of the trips planned - a revisit is on the agenda....)
Can you get UK cigarettes/tobacco in Wroclaw? A friend has asked me to bring some back.....0 -

I loved podgorze, and there is a lot more to see there than i did, and will be going back again and going to do this area more next time.
Cigs - they are 98zl about £22 for 200 l/b i saw them once at this price in a shop in the market just outside of the new town, and they was also this price at the airport at duty free, i brought a few packets home.
enjoy this wonderful city0 -
I have been to Krakow twice and both times really enjoyed the visit. I admit that the first time was a stag do, but the second was more cultural. We went to Auchwitz, which is very upsetting but worth a visit. One tip is to arrange your own transport and tour guide. This allows you to get there as soon as they open and spend longer there. It's not much more expensive, but well worth it. We arranged this via escape2poland.co.uk who were very good.
I bought my cigs from the carefour supermarket in the big, modern shopping centre near the railway station. You will walk right past it if you get the train from the airport. They were about 100zl for 200 andI thought it safer to buy them here than anywhere else. It's well worth filling up at they are 60% cheaper than the UK.
I would also recommend using the train from the airport as it is very cheap (much cheaper than a taxi) they run every 15 mins or so and it takes about 20 minutes to get right into the middle of Krakow. To find the train, walk out of the main airport exit, turn right and walk as far as you can, turn left and follow the road with the multi storey car park on your left. The platform is about 600 meters. Tickets are about 8zl I think and can be bought on board. It's cheaper to buy from a machine than the guard, where they are 10zl.0
