My trip to Poland - advice on what to fit in in 4 days please!! I leave in a week!

I know there are some experts on Poland lurking on these boards so looking for some help.
I have booked a flight to Krakow on the 5th August and a return flight from Wroclaw on the 9th. I did this to stop me taking the easy option and staying just in Krakow. I have been there twice before and have been to Aushwitz. This time I am going to stay a maximum of two nights in Krakow and then move on probably by train or internal flight, going to have a look at the Salt Mines because I havent been there yet but that apart not doing much else in Krakow.
My initial thought are to move to Katowice for a night and then Wroclaw for another night probably on the train. Are both towns/cities worth going to?
The other options are Warsaw, to which I can get a cheap internal flight or maybe Lodz. I figure that Gdansk is a bit far for the four night I have got.
Never done anything like this before so am being a bit brave at my age! Travelling alone so any advice on what to see where to stay and eat will be greatly appreciated.
Arrive about 11am on the 5th Krakow deprt about 2pm Wroclaw on the 9th August apart from that I have absolutely nothing planned or booked. I am scaring myself now!!

Wroclaw is definitely worth a visit. I would only recommend Katowice if Middlesbrough is your idea of a good holiday destination. It's very industrial. I would go for 2 days Krakow and two days Wroclaw. Go by train between the two. If you want attractive countryside as well either go south from Krakow to the High Tatra or west from Wroclaw into the Riesengebirge.0

APT thanks for that helpful reply you obviously know the area well, will have to give Katowice a miss then. Any recommendations on where to stay in Wroclaw and is there enough there to do for two full days allowing for eating and drinking of course. Thanks again0

I lived in Wroclaw for 3 months, but a few years ago, so it's best to ask others about the latest things to do and the new hotels. But if you look at travelsupermarket.com even a 5 star hotel in the centre of town is good value for the dates you are going. That main square and town hall are spectacular. There are loads of canals going through the city. Have a look at https://www.wroclaw-life.com or https://www.inyourpocket.com/poland/wroclaw0

My partner is Polish, from a city close to Wroclaw. TBH I wasn't as impressed, it's a nice city (one day is enough for it) but would def stay in Krakow for the whole period, there are plenty to do there. Salt mine is great, also can suggest a trip down the river. If you want to go to Wroclaw, maybe you can go for a trip in the mountains- Karpacz is not far away and you can spend a whole day climbing to the top. Enjoy it, Poland is a beautiful country.0

Fly to Gdansk and visit Sopot take a stroll along the pier. I think its still the longest wooden pier in Europe.0

I've just done 4 days in krakow and loved it.
I can't comment on the other cities, but i have heard that katowice isn't anywhere near as nice as krakow.
The salt mines are really interesting, you can get the bus from central krakow, but you have to go in with a guide, the english speaking tours leave every 30 mins.
When you last went to krakow did you visit schindlers list in podgorze, i thought this area was lovely.
Nightime, we spent in plac noway in the kazimerz area, we loved the alchemia bar plus the singer bar, great bars.0 -

Seriously, don't get in a fret. Going to Poland these days is like trundling round the home counties. Back in 2004, it was a tiny bit of a challenge, but now it's no different to Germany. In a way, this is bad, but equally, it's good, as it shows the Polish economy has come on leaps and bounds since EU membership.
And Polish women are generally gorgeous. But you knew that, right?0 -
Oo.. my favourite topic. My initial thought are to move to Katowice for a night and then Wroclaw for another night probably on the train. Are both towns/cities worth going to?
Don't bother with Katowice, nothing worth seeing there. Wroclaw is often called "the new Krakow" - so just head there instead. And don't bother with Warsaw or Lodz - neither is really worth a visit. Lodz is horrific - it lacks any real centre, most of it looks like WW2 just ended yesterday and really, wouldn't be out of place in rural Ukraine or Russia!kavics17 wrote:If you want to go to Wroclaw, maybe you can go for a trip in the mountains- Karpacz is not far away and you can spend a whole day climbing to the top. Not far away? It's about 3-4 hours by public transport!
My advice is simply do Krakow and Wroclaw. If you really want, head down to Zakopane for a day from Krakow, it's not far. From Poland...with love.
They are (they're) sitting on the floor.
Their books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.0 -
OP, why not go a country that resides in the 21st. century, much more comfortable unless you are hell bent on torturing yourself;)The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0

Ignore Stoneman
I really liked Wroclaw
Zakopane is really nice - used to go skiing there - although getting there is a pain
Poland used to be really cheap but not so anymore.0
