Cuts Kill off British Film

Slumdog Millionaire is a British film. Do you think that is rubbish too?
In short yes.
SDM followed the template of British Asian 'comedies' before it like, East is East.
i.e gritty abuse, domestic violence, alienation, a bit of artless comedy that cant be relied upon as the substance of the production because it lacks enough sophistication to be an actual comedy.
Really didnt do it for me, utterly depressing movie. Not that Boyle cares as he's rolling in moolah. Looks like making patronising exploitation films about the British working class is much less lucrative than making patronising exploitation films about the Indian working class. Mind you it opened the door to a whole new audience of self satisfied luvvies across the Atlantic who suddenly realised there was an entire new continent they could feel superior to without actually having to sit through 4 hours of Bollywood to appreciate, so there you go.
He did make 28 Days Later though so can be forgiven.
Other British films I like:- Bridget Jones the first one
- About a Boy
- Descent
- The Hole
- Stardust
- The Damned United
- In Bruges
- Trainspotting
- All the other ones
- Any derivative gangstger film made by / featuring Guy Ritchie
- Any other gangster film not featuring Guy Ritchie
- Everything Ken Loach did apart from the one about the Spanish Civil War
- Everything Hugh Grant has been in except About a Boy (or Love Actually which I didnt want to like but did)

Sorry - you liked Bridget Jones' Diary but not Slumdog Millionaire? And Hugh Grant was in Bridget Jones too.
I don't think we're going to agree on the state of British film much
I will add "anything that has Danny Dyer in it, except the bits where someone is punching him in the face" to your not-like list though.0 -

Yes. And, more to the point, I fail to see why my taxes should have funded its production. Or that of any other film, for that matter.
If people want movies, they should pay for them - not dip into other people's pockets to subsidise their pleasure.0 -

And in what way are James Bond films subsidised?
This isn't a discussion about whether or not people like British films, but about whether we should all be forced to pay for them (and their bloated supportive bureacracy) through our taxes.0 -

There really arent.
Do you mean "This is England"? I avoided watching that until it became unavoidable. I concede it was good, dont ever want to see it again.
Harry Potter, just no.
None of the James Bond films. I cant be bothered to look on Wiki but I think they were Universal or something so not Britsh.0 -
