You will need to be registered for telephone or internet banking to make FPs, ie it's not a service offered at the branch counter.

So if it's 'speed' you're after you should be making your payments to MBNA by FP...not by debit card.

I don't know what Faster Payments are ??????

I usually go into the bank and hand over the credit card statement and pay cash over the counter.

Then read the information I linked to above on your bank's website and all will become clear. :)

FPs are just like BACS transfers (CB call them 'fund transfers'), only quicker! Have you ever used your online banking to make a payment?
  • Basically FannyHill, Faster Payment is like a "Cash" bank transfer.

Its not a debit card payment, its almost like your transfering funds immediately from your bank direct to their bank with your mbna number as your reference so they know which card account to credit. No Card or Slip is used. You can normally do this via online banking by selecting the "Pay Someone" or whatever option your online banking has.

Useful information for next time, but don't worry anymore about this your payment will have already been received.

OK I've got it if I go into my Clydesdale online account and say I want to make a payment to someone, I put in who I want to pay and that goes thru as a Faster Payment.

    Hope I'm right ???????

Now I haven't done that I've gone into the MBNA online account and given my debit card no so who knows how long that will take ??????

I have occasionally paid things via online banking but I usually go into the bank and pay my bills over the counter.
I've done that for the last 40 years and am used to doing it that way.
I like to see a stamp on the bill showing where it was paid and how much.
    Old habits die hard.

Hurrah the payment I made last Friday over the counter at the bank is now showing on my online MBNA account.

So that only took.... erm...........nearly a week.

I get this niggling feeling that there is a reason banks take so long to transfer money......could it be for their benefit ???? :p

Thanks for all the replies and info.
  • I have asimilar problem I need to pay my cc bill TODAY and there appears No way to do this. I have been to all the banks to enquire about the faster payments scheme and they give confusing info. I usually pay online using Cahoot, but Santander, LLoyds and HSBC all say that it will still take 3 days to hit my account. Has anyone any ideas? Even if I were to pay in cash at a Coop bank(MBNAs bank) it would still take 3 days.Help please. What is the point of the faster payments scheme?
