My son bought an i-pod and we couldnt get it to connect to the home network as we lost the password. Finally after trying lots of things we contacted Virgin and managed to find the password. We had to reset the route and then put in a new password. The xbox asked for the new password and works fine, the ipod iw now up and running but my laptop won't connect now. It says cannot connect although the signal is strong. Been working on these now for 5 hours - please help! Its a DLink router from Virgin.

Have you changed the wifi password on router and updated the laptop wifi card config so it can connect.0

yes I have changed wifi password on router and have had to re enter this on xbox etc after being prompted but I've not done anything to my laptop wifi card config (don't even know what it is). Can you advise me in plain English because I wouldn't know where to start. thanks.0

What wifi encryption do you use, WEP or WPA/WPA2?0 -
hiya wpa/wpa2. I get the following error messges
network cable not properly plugged in or broken (although all other things like xbox etc and this computer I'm using is fine)
Microsoft virtual wifi miniport adapter is experiencing driver or hardware related problems.
I deleted the driver which had a yellow exclamation mark against it (one of the suggestions I found on internet) but now cant find the drivers to re-install them??
I'm not sure why its not working it was fine before all this. thanks.0 -
if you've deleted the driver, it won't work at all. You'll need to connect the lappy to your router with an ethernet cable and download the drivers for your wifi card again.......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
Have done as you suggested and used cable etc and its now back in my 'Network Adapters' but still showing a yellow exclamation mark and I still cannot connect to the internet on my laptop0

what's back? you should have a network card and a wifi card showing in device manager, with the ! by the wifi card. If you've plugged a cable in, you should now be able to access the 'net on the lappy, the cable connects it to the router....yes?......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

it works with cable but not wireless?0

right, that's what's supposed to happen at this point
now, in device manager, right-click on the wifi card, and click to uninstall it. Then, restart the lappy (with the ethernet cable still plugged in). On startup, it should now detect the wifi card and ask you to install it. This may well then connect to the net in order to find and download the drivers for you, and then install the wifi card along with it's drivers.......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Hiya. Have done all that and still cannot connect wirelessly. It put all the info in but it didn't ask me for driver information. Should there be a yellow exclamation mark against the wifi card. Don't know what else to try. Have called Virgin Media 8 times and 6 times they've hung up when they couldnt sort the problem and the other 2 said they will call me back and haven't. Can't understand why xbox and ipod etc are working and this problem only occurred after resetting password on the router.0
