    Update

It's been a week. We have just taken a reading and it's gone up from 110 cubic metres to 119 cubic metres. We have both made a concious effort to not waste water and have logged each time water was used. To me, nearly 10 cubic metres of water in a week seems very high for a couple. I've seen that the average yearly usage for a family of 5 is 300 cubic metres.

We have done a flow test and it does seem to be our metre. We may look at spending a week with my parents and see if the meter reading has changed while we are away.

    Any thoughts?

It turns out there was a leak in the main stop tap in the garden. It's been sorted now but we have still been left with this big water bill :(

There are 2 types of help ( if you qualify) leak allowance and leak adjustment and you could apply for them but there is nothing to say you will qualify. Call them and ask for the form, fill it in and see what is said.

Can't hurt anything and they might allow you some reduction

As the house is new build, I think this one should be between STW and the builder.

Problem is , they will not see it that way.

As STW will say it is nothing to do with them they will expect someone to either pay the bill or apply for an allowance. They are not going to ring the builder and ask them to sort it out as legally they don't have too.
